The Riverbrook Regional YMCA - Norwalk branch, is seeking a dedicated Childcare Program Director to join our management team.

The Childcare Program Director- Norwalk Branch, manages and supervises the Childcare and Day Camp Programs for the Riverbrook Regional YMCA Afterschool Childcare and Day Camp Programs-Norwalk Branch. The Childcare Program Director- Norwalk is responsible for the maintenance of a safe, happy, and healthy environment for both children and staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Hire, train, and supervise all Afterschool Childcare and Camp Sunrise program staff within the budget and personnel policies of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA.
  • Development and implementation of the Afterschool Childcare and Camp budget in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Provide quality Afterschool Childcare and Camp programs. Implement any guidelines and standards outlined by the YMCA of the USA.
  • Work closely with the Director of Health and Wellness and the Norwalk Health Department to implement the Fit Kids program.
  • Establish and prepare goals and objectives that are consistent with those of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA.
  • Communicate effectively with other YMCA staff, Afterschool Childcare, Camp participants and Guardians.
  • Maintain a level of fiscal responsibility along with the Childcare Administrative Director- Norwalk that includes the annual income and program expense budget and the monthly petty cash.
  • Execute the registration and implementation of the Afterschool and Summer Day Camp program.
  • Attend all Staff meetings, and trainings
  • Promote and Support all YMCA Special Events.
  • Follow and Maintain all HEPA policies and procedures.
  • Visit area Afterschool Childcare and Camp Program sites daily/weekly to ensure safety and cleanliness of all spaces and equipment. Report any issues to the Principal of the school and Maintenance staff of the building immediately.
  • Ensure all State licensing guidelines are followed. Act as a substitute on as-needed basis.
  • Serves as the Head Teacher for the Afterschool Program as well as onsite Camp Director for Camp Sunrise.
  • Work with the Childcare Program Director to order and furnish the Afterschool Childcare and Day Camp sites with the necessary supplies to organize, set-up, maintain and run programs effectively. This includes delivery of supplies to the individual sites and keeping inventory of supplies purchased and utilized.
  • Perform staff scheduling according to the appropriate ratios as outlined by State requirements.
  • Maintain programs within all budgetary guidelines as stipulated by the Childcare Administrative Director- Norwalk
  • Organize “Meet and Greet” and other social events for parents and children in the Afterschool Childcare and Day Camp programs.
  • Act as point of contact for Riverbrook Regional YMCA for all community outreach meetings/programs and school or town officials.
  • Develop and regulate enrichment programs for Afterschool Childcare in areas such as: Fitness, Reading Readiness, Nutrition, Anti-bullying and Personal development.
  • As Camp Director for Camp Sunrise, manage all aspects of operating the Day Camp program.
  • During the scheduled camp weeks for Camp Sunrise, the Camp Director will work on-site 7:30 am -3:30 pm or 10:00 am- 6 pm depending on the Camp week.
  • Manage Campers conflict resolution issues and parent concerns/communication.
  • Responsible for the well-being and safety of each child in the Day Camp Program.
  • Organize and participate in Camp Trainings and make-up dates.
  • Create weekly schedules for Campers, Staff.
  • Responsible for all Camp paperwork, scheduling and group assignments including clip boards along with the assistance of the Childcare Administrative Director- Norwalk.
  • Organize and delegate daily/weekly Counselor placement as well as daily/weekly placement and creation of Camper Group lists.
  • Organize and lead daily/weekly Counselor meetings.
  • Research and Book field trips, speakers and special guest activities for Camp Sunrise.
  • Incorporate STEM into the Camp Sunrise programs.
  • Develop and implement all Special Events and Theme weeks working with other Directors.
  • Create and organize the promotion of Camp Sunrise to Parents in forms such as Bulletin Boards, Pictures, Newsletter and the use of Social Media and Website.
  • Coordinate and lead Camp Meetings year-round as needed.
Educational Background: 
A four-year baccalaureate degree or two- year Associates Degree with appropriate experience preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The Childcare Program Director should have at least four years of administration experience and knowledge of running Afterschool and Camp programs.
  • State of Connecticut Head Teacher Certification
  • State of Connecticut Approved Camp Director number
  • This individual should have 1-2 years’ experience in the supervision of multiple staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise children, and counsel parents.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $36,000.00 - $38,000.00
