Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member focused YMCA aquatic programs. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Oversees and coordinates the recruitment, training, scheduling, certification, and performance of employees in department; supervises the day-to-day activities of staff.
- Oversees and manages an Aquatics team that includes; Director of Competitive Swimming, Assistant Aquatics Coordinator, Swim lesson coordinator, City Pool coordinator and other Aquatics Staff to run Aquatics operations.
- Oversees and coordinates the administration of all Aquatics areas, to include scheduling of facility operations, rentals and contract management.
- Oversees the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
- Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
- Responsible for recruitment of new members and participants through innovative aquatic programming that reflects the mission of current and future programs
- Participates in and teaches aquatic and safety certification training sessions, as necessary.
- Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and is accountable for budget expectations and outcomes of aquatics department
- Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
- Prepares statistical reports on a monthly basis, and prepares data and narrative for inclusion in annual reports.
- Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies for the Y.
- Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
- Has ability to use computers, programming software, and fluent at social media and website updates. Current Software - Center Point, Daxko Operations and Accounting.
- Promote, teach and implement Lifeguard and CPR/AED courses to Members, Staff and Community.
- Director will assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Effectively tailors communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Assist with any YMCA sponsored events.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum age of 21
- Three to five year’s related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of :Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding Preferred.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- CPO Preferred(Required within 90 days of hire)
- Lifeguard Instructor Preferred(Required within 90 days of hire)
- Lifeguard Trainer Preferred(Required within one year of hire)
- Preferred previous experience in coaching swim teams or swim lessons.
- WSI/Y instruction certification- preferred
- 3-5 years preferred in managing staff
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $35,357.00 - $44,000.00
