We are looking for a dynamic leader responsible for strategic and daily operations for the Central and Walnut Street YMCAs located in Wilmington, DE. For more than 89 years, these Ys have been providing programs and services for a diverse community and these downtown branches are part of a dynamic and progressive $40 million YMCA Association.

 The Senior Executive Director will have the opportunity to live in one of the best states in the country that provides a great quality of life that includes: a short drive to numerous beaches, mountains, major cities like Philadelphia, as well as, great neighborhoods to live in, cultural events, home of “Tax Free” shopping, and many other wonderful attractions throughout the state.

 The Senior Executive Director will be responsible for managing the 120,000 square foot Central YMCA and the 55,000 square foot Walnut Street YMCA.

 The Central Y includes a state of the art fitness center, a large childcare program, and a 180 room resident housing program for men.  The Walnut Street YMCA features a Youth Center that highlights the Y’s commitment to Youth Development. Programs include: A Teen Center; Full Day Care Center with 40 children; Before and After School programs serving 150 students each day; a strong Learn to Swim Program; and a Summer Camp that serves 250 campers each day.

Areas of Responsibility: 

We are looking for an experienced leader with a strong ability to run all branch operations, with a focus on building and retaining a strong membership base. The ideal candidate has proven experience and results in membership growth and retention; all aspects of branch operations; high performing staff management and development; fundraising; strategic planning; board development; budget development; fiscal management; and community outreach that is anchored in our commitment to strengthening the community. Selected responsibilities that reflect the overall position are:

 Assumes overall management for the operations of the branch.

  • Leads efforts to increase and retain membership base.
  • Ensures high level of customer service in all departments and programs.
  • Engages community members in the Y.
  • Develops and maintains branch facilities that meet the needs of current and potential members and the association’s safety, service, and security objectives.
  • Effectively speaks on behalf of the YMCA of Delaware.
  • Ensures high performance and success of annual contributions goals and may participate in major capital initiatives.
  • Maintains good relations with legislative decision makers and community leaders.
  •  Proven track record of collaborative success both internally and externally.

Board and Volunteer Development

  • Recruits, trains, supervise and evaluate all Branch professional staff persons in accord with Branch annual operating budget.
  • Responsible for the development and operation of all Board committees.
  • Consults and advises in the selection of Board members, committee chairpersons and committee members.
  • Gives major leadership to volunteer development, giving particular emphasis to volunteer/staff teamwork.

Human Resource Management

  • Recruits, trains, supervise and evaluate all Branch professional staff persons in accord with Branch annual operating budget.
  • Assists the Branch’s professional staff in recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating all non-professional full-time programs, clerical and maintenance staff, and all part-time staff in accord with Branch annual operating budget.
  • Maintains high staff morale and low staff turnover.

Program Development

  • Responsible for overall program growth and evaluation, special program thrusts and innovative, experimental program efforts that meet the objectives of the Association.
  • Reviews and evaluates the enrollment, programs, services and operation of the Branch and communicates these findings and recommendations to the Board of Governors, Vice President of Operations and Branch staff.

Planning

  • Gives principal leadership to the development and to volunteer/staff involvement in the execution of the Branch operating plan, particularly addressing current Branch needs, both short and long-range in nature.      
  • Carries final responsibility for monitoring and accomplishment of goals and objectives of the Branch operation plan and making recommendations for action by the Branch Board of Governors, the Association Board of Directors and staff.

Branch Administration

  • Responsible for implementation of bylaws, policies, goals and priorities, standards and procedures developed by the Board of Directors.
  • Carries final responsibility for Branch facility use and maintenance.  Inspects the facilities and properties of the Branch to assure high standards of maintenance and to assure that the requirements of all applicable codes and laws are fully met.  Provides for the health and safety of members and staff using the YMCA.
  • Responsible for public relations of the YMCA including communication through regular membership newsletters, news releases and seasonal promotional efforts.
  • Represents the YMCA through membership in selected community organizations and through attendance at key YMCA and community events.

Fiscal Management and Control

  • Responsible for a balanced operation, for annual budget development, monthly budget monitoring and year-end forecasts.
  • Maintains and is thoroughly conversant with systems of financial control including revenues, expenses and inventories.
  • Operates the Branch at all times within directives and policies of the Association.

Financial Development

  • Responsible for securing sufficient revenue to provide program services consistent with established goals.
  • Gives leadership to Branch fund-raising programs as required to meet the financial development objectives of the Association.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree in business administration/human services or equivalent experience.  Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have experience growing membership base in similar environment
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a senior level person in a facility with a membership base
Compensation/Benefits:

Salary: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00
