The Development Program Associate is a key partner to the Director of Development in ensuring the successful operation of The Nature Conservancy in Delaware’s philanthropy team. The Associate is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the philanthropy team, including gift acknowledgement, pipeline development, prospect tracking, portfolio management, fundraising progress reports, prospect research, stewardship, and event support. The position reports to the Director of Development and will be part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Associate may supervise volunteers. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Development Program Associate will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the team by implementing tactics for approved plans and completing and organizing varied tasks and activities. They will identify priorities based on needs of the program. They will have contact with stakeholders and may have a key role regarding outreach for the program to internal and/or external audiences. They will manage, track, and report on key data related to the team scope and priorities, and provide guidance to chapter staff on use and/or processing of data. The Associate will perform independent analysis on key data, which may include donor or gift information. They may be responsible for processing gifts and/or participating in the development of organizational best practices. The Associate must maintain advanced skills with the systems and resources utilized by the team in order to execute tasks and help provide direction. They will implement processes and practices to improve effectiveness based on their in-depth understanding of related policies and procedures. The Associate will effectively communicate or distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow. They will also be responsible for activities such as drafting correspondence, planning logistics of meetings, and assisting with the planning of special events for prospects and donors. They will provide administrative functions as required. They may be asked to take on additional duties to enhance the work of the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Coordinate projects with several variables, working within a defined timeline and budget.
  • Act independently on assigned tasks and exercise independent judgment based on analysis and experience.
  • Serve as team’s resource with regard to the capabilities and functions of the Conservancy’s donor database, BBCRM.
  • Provide administrative support for various donor-centric activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality of frequently sensitive information.
  • Does not supervise any staff, but may supervise interns, volunteers, and/or temporary staff.
  • Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
  • Provide input through project teams for the improvement of existing programs.
  • Refer difficult questions and unusual problems to supervisor.
  • Travel and work flexible hours.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
  • Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience building relationships with staff, customers or similar.
  • Experience generating reports and interpreting data.
  • Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience working across teams.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience with database administration and spreadsheet software, including managing and tracking data.
  • Ability to analyze information for the purpose of coordinating and planning activities and for solving problems.
  • Ability to implement processes and strategic program goals.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate projects and work under pressure.
  • Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to write and edit written materials for use with donor solicitations, member communications, and special events.
  • Experience interpreting guidelines to achieve desired results.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specific field.
