The YMCA of DE is seeking a Child Development Director to manage the administration of Summer day camp & other YMCA programs.

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a full-time Child Development Director for our Walnut Street branch location. Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings & weekends. Under the direction of the Center Director, the Program Director shall be responsible for the administration of the Summer Day Camp & other YMCA Programs. Responsibilities include personnel management, budget development & fiscal management, program development, marketing, equipment management, facility management & operating procedures. This position is responsible for effective relations with members, children, parents, staff, volunteers and community contacts.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the camp program for assigned location. Ensures high-quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Hold monthly meetings for all department staff.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Orders supplies and equipment as needed within budgeted amounts.
  • Provide programmatic support as assigned to the Teen Program Director with the operation of the Youth in Government program and/or other initiatives.
  • Work with Secretary to coordinate new registrations, transitions, terminations, POC updates and billing issues.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Continues progress and maintenance of requirements for participation in Delaware Stars.
  • Develop and implement annual marketing and promotional plan for all program areas. Assist with the development and submission of periodic program promotion materials for branch marketing efforts. Plan and implement department-specific promotional items for all assigned program areas.
  • Maintain effective and timely communication with staff and parents regarding program news, changes, YMCA involvement and other necessary information.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 15 college/university credits in course content covering at least three of the following topic areas – child development, developmental curriculum planning, positive behavior management, health & safety, nutrition, family/community, and professionalism.
  • Twenty-four months of experience working with school age children in a group setting.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR, AED and First Aid.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $45,900.00 - $68,800.00
