Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Assistant Aquatic Director will be responsible for leadership in the operations of private and group swim lesson programming, including aquatic camp programming. The Assistant Aquatic Director will also provide support in operations of all indoor and outdoor aquatic areas, as well as lap and family swim and Ellis / YMCA of Delaware Lifeguard standards. Supervises the Aquatic Swim Instructors. In addition, recruits, trains supervises and evaluates aquatic swim lesson instructors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Work closely with Facility Staff ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Oversee Ellis and Associates Lifeguarding, Y Swim Lesson Instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Ensure all AEDs throughout the branch are current, rescue equipment is functional, trauma bags and first aid kits are stocked. 
  • Creates, schedules and posts swim classes, water fitness classes, family/rec swim, and lap swim times.  
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or related field and/or 5+ years of related experience supervising a large staff and managing pools. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred. 
  • Background in YMCA aquatic operations, particularly in swim lessons and/or lifeguarding.  
  • Required certifications include Ellis Lifeguard, Professional CPR and first aid including AED and oxygen administration, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment and Blood Borne Pathogen Training.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relations; ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Must have or secure within one year YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification.
  • Must have or secure within one year Ellis Lifeguard License.
  • Skills in organizational management, staff and volunteer leadership, human relations and team building. Must be able to use good judgment and problem solving skills in daily strategic and emergency situations
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $37,700.00 - $42,400.00
