The primary responsibility of the Staff Accountant is to support the Chief Financial Officer in carrying out the daily, monthly and yearly accounting functions of the YMCA.  The Accountant is required to prepare accurate and timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts, audit, analyze and verify fiscal records and reports, prepare financial and statistical reports, and provide information to YMCA staff regarding accounting practices and procedures.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Preparation of detailed monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly entries and reversing entries as needed. 
  • Process and distribute monthly financial reports from the general ledger system.
  • Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.
  • Assist with preparation of reports for annual audit and works with the auditors.
  • Abide by all established YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in accounting and a minimum of six (6) months of accounting work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills.
  • Previous experince working with Microsoft Office products, Excel and Outlook are a must.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong service orientation and ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, clients, outside agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with little or no supervision.

Required Certifications

  •  Compliance with Act 15 of 2015, to include documentation of Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check , Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Fingerprinting Clearance.
  • Completion of the Mandated Reporter Training for Child Abuse Prevention in compliance with ACT 164 of 2014.
