The Sports Program Director has all of the responsibilities relating to the Youth and Adult Sports programs.

Supervising and administering the Youth Baseball, Youth Basketball, Youth and Adult Soccer, Adult Volleyball programs. Develops the budget for all programs and maintains their fiscal soundness. Responsible for developing new programs and the growth of existing programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Evaluates programs using surveys and communication with participants, parents, committee members and staff.
  • Develops volunteer committees and gives leadership and training for balanced performance of each program.
  • Responsible for training, hiring, and termination of all staff and volunteers to run programs. (Coaches, officials, supervisors, maintenance crews, spectators, players, committee members.)
  • Provides staff development opportunities for staff and volunteers
  • Evaluates staff and volunteers
  • Makes provisions that all equipment and facilities used are safe and conducive to the wellness of the participants.
  • Coordinates equipment and space to run programs at each branch.
  • Responsible for marketing programs
  • Will serve as a staff aide for the Annual Sustaining Campaign.
  • Will assume any other responsibilities as are assigned by the direct supervisor.
  • Responsible for being “On-call” for programs as needed.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends.
Educational Background: 
An undergraduate degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field is preferred. Some experience in YMCA youth and/or adult programming or equivalent is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have good human relations skill to work with branch directors, staff instructors, members, and participants.
  • Requires conflict management skills.
  • Must have knowledge of YMCA membership and program promotion/development.
  • Must have knowledge of budget development and control.
  • Must be organized
  • Appropriate certifications in working with youth and adults are required.
  • Agrees to work towards and complete YMCA Team Leader Competency
