Under the direction of the Director of Health and Wellness, the Healthy Living Coordinator manages Healthy Living programs & staff. These evidence-based programs provide a positive, encouraging, enjoyable and safe experience for people looking to prevent and/or offset the effects of chronic disease. The Healthy Living Coordinator will be responsible for building a strong referral relationship with local health care providers, participating in regular meetings with community health leaders, and maintaining relationships with various off-site program delivery locations in Westport and Weston.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Acts as a health educator for Members.
  • Liaison in the medical community to build and foster YMCA relationships.
  • Promotes current YMCA evidence based programming and determines needs of the community for additional programs.
  • Adheres to program design guidelines (Y-USA, CDC, etc.) to ensure consistent delivery of evidence based programs.
  • Evaluates programs and update as needed.
  • Provides Nutritional Counseling for members.
  • Assists booking and planning Healthy Living Lectures. 
  • Attends bi-weekly meetings with Director of Health and Wellness.
Educational Background: 
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), or Master of Public Health (MPH).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Prior work and/or volunteer experience in health education and/or chronic disease prevention & management programs.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Organized self-starter, possess time management skills, proficient in excel, publisher and Daxko.

Preferred Qualifications

  • YMCA Healthy Heart Ambassador, A Matter of Balance Coach, YMCA Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle Coach, Regenerate Coach/Livestrong, Livewell Coach.
  • Certified to perform in-house screenings for: diabetes, cholesterol, triglycerides, stress and stress management.
  • Bilingual, with fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RD; RDN) or Certified Clinical Nutritionist (CCN)
