Under the direction of the CEO, this position supports the work of the Westport Weston Family YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  This position is responsible for the successful operation of the YMCA, including growing membership, program development, volunteer recruitment, staff supervision, community relations, collaborations, budgeting and monitoring financial results. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supervise, coach, and assess the effectiveness of directly supervised personnel through the development of annual goals and objectives and make appropriate training recommendations or staff changes where necessary with counsel of CEO. Effectively communicate the standards for performance. Continually review and evaluate key performance measures for staff, programs and membership service to ensure that all programs are of a high quality, as measured by participant evaluations and feedback.
  • Provide assistance in budget development and execution, making adjustments as identified in quarterly reforecasting exercises for all program departments under COO’s supervision.  Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.
  • Ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, collaborations and partnerships.
  • Identifies potential areas for programming to accomplish YMCA goals, and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs.  Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs and leads staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
  • Assure all risk management and safety policies and procedures are adhered to throughout all departments.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to various community organizations as determined by the CEO.
  • Take a leadership role in the staff and membership component of the Annual Campaign.
  • Maintain all program reports. Ensure that reports are on time and accurate.
  • Attend Board of Directors meetings and work with board committees as assigned. 
  • Assist with WWFY marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefits to the community.
  • Accept other duties as may be assigned by CEO.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of eight years or more professional experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, and financial practices.
  • Proven record of designing and executing fee-based community and value-added member programs.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Delegation skills are required, as well as the ability to step in as needed to ensure completion of delegated assignments.
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00
