Under the direction of the Sr. Program Director, the Aquatic Director is responsible for the administration and direction of the Aquatic Department and supervision of all Aquatic Department staff. The Aquatic Director will assure that programs and facilities exceed the goals and objectives of the Westport Weston Family YMCA.  The Aquatic Director must possess excellent organizational, communication, and supervisory skills.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate all Aquatic Department programs, including but not limited to: group swim lessons, private swim lessons, aquatic fitness, special events, pool rentals, and lifeguard certification classes.
  • Supervise one full time assistant director.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Competitive Swimming to ensure the swim team’s programmatic goals can be met.
  • Ensure that program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise aquatic staff and volunteers.
  • Evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate staff to achieve goals.
  • Develop and manage the aquatics department budget. Ensure programs operate within budget and program fees are collected.
  • Assure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Maintain aquatic facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain proper records and department files.
  • Develop new programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Schedule, plan, and promote all aquatics programs. Ensure program registrations are up to date.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Supervisory experience in aquatic programs, staff, and facilities.
  • Knowledge in aquatic programming, including, but not limited to, lifeguarding, swim lessons, and aquatic fitness.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  •  Y-USA Swim Instructor or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
  •  American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred.
  •  Y-USA Team Leader Certification is preferred.
  •  Must become a Certified Pool & Spa Operator within 12 months of hire.
