The YMCA of Greater Westfield is looking for a cause-driven leader to focus on financial development, member engagement and marketing.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Mission Advancement Director at The YMCA of Greater Westfield intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined and also builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through development and implementation of effective marketing and communications strategies. Additionally the position organizes and implements a comprehensive strategic annual campaign program.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Marketing and Communications

  • Develops annual operating goals, objectives and plan for the marketing and communications area. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
  • Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote programs, in accordance with membership and marketing plans.
  • Maintain and update website and other media/marketing vehicles; maintains all social media and web forums
  • Produce and distribute informational updates to members, staff, donors, volunteers, community stakeholders and participants i.e. newsletters, social media, bulletin boards
  • Establishes contacts with media representatives and writes and submits press releases when appropriate. Maintains updated files of YMCA’s media relations (both press and electronic).
  • Identifies and builds relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders, such as service groups, community organizations or companies, to support programs or projects.
  • Makes presentations about the YMCA.
  • Perform the research necessary to develop, plan and implement impact (education and outreach) campaigns to help drive membership and community knowledge of services and benefits provided

Financial Development

  • Educates staff, volunteers, and members about the charitable nature of the Y; leads assigned aspects of the fundraising campaign.
  • Creates and executes an annual campaign strategy for the Y in collaboration with executive and volunteer leadership.
  • Recruits, onboards, and develops volunteers from diverse backgrounds and develops an effective, comprehensive annual campaign program. Trains volunteers in gift solicitation. Works closely with executive leadership.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop communication and campaign strategies to successfully market the annual campaign. Supports plans for identifying, cultivating and soliciting branch annual fund prospects.
  • Responsible for the development and coordination of year-round communication to existing and potential donors, including the creation of campaign materials
  • Oversees the data management of annual gifts and conducts regular analysis and reporting of annual campaign progress.
  • Establishes systems for timely and appropriate acknowledgements of annual campaign gifts.
  • Oversees and executes prospect/donor correspondence.
  • Staffs and manages special events, projects and committees as assigned

Member Engagement

  • Develops and implements a Member Engagement Plan to ensure a culture of committed relationships and engagement which results in increased membership and program participants.
  • Responsible for hosting and development of family programs and community engagement events.
  • Executes strategies to ensure that members, staff, volunteers and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.

General

  • Serves as a member of the YMCA leadership team
  • Assist as needed with YMCA operations, building coverage, meetings and special events.
  • Achieve retention goals, as well as growth goals, for income and special events.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Develops, monitors and administers assigned annual budget and maintains a positive fiscal position.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Previous professional experience in membership, marketing and/or sales, annual giving preferred.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
  • Requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00
