Under the direction of the Program Operations Director, the Aquatic Director provides supervision and leadership to the Aquatic Department. The Aquatic Director also manages and oversees budget responsibility for this program area and ensures that they are following the mission statement and policies of the Kettle Moraine YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. 
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts aquatic staff in services. Monthly for Lifeguards and quarterly for Swim Instructors.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Creates, schedules and maintains swim lesson classes; develops and maintains lifeguard schedules
  • Administer the aquatics program. Organize, supervise, evaluate, and develop new and current aquatic programs.  Plan recruitment and training of staff.
  • Be on deck for all special events, including, but not limited to: Open Houses, Healthy Kids Day, Family Nights, and high-volume community rentals.
  • Provide between ten (10) and fifteen (15) hours of direct service per week.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Works with Program Operations Director to develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Completes and submits Timecards.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to 
  • all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation 
  • in program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Builds and maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, volunteers, other staff, and the communities we serve.
  • Works to implement the Mission Statement of the YMCA.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent, or one to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum age: 21
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification, (YSL) or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, (WSI).
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification or American Red Cross Lifeguard.
  • Required to have experience in organizing, conducting, supervising and evaluating performance of assigned programs and staff.
  • Required to initiate, promote, and supervise new programs.
  • Good verbal and written skills are required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
