The Audubon Center at Riverlands is seeking a temporary Bird Survey Technician to assist with avian point-count surveys and associated data entry tasks and data analysis for the Upper Mississippi River system.
This is a full-time position and runs from May 7th through July 28th (approximately). Applicants will also need to be available for additional part-time work (data entry and data analysis tasks) through December 2018.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Monitor Midwestern avian species presence in the field by both sight and sound using point-count surveys
- Data management, data entry tasks and data analysis
- Assist with facilitation of monitoring logistics
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Conservation, Natural Sciences, or related field required
Skills/Experience:
- Experience with avian point counts
- Identification of Midwestern birds by sight and sound desired
- Attention to detail and accuracy when gathering data
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work early hours
- Ability to work outdoors in varying climates and conditions (heat, biting insects, wet terrain)
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers and/or interns when performing point count surveys
- Ability to use GPS to locate survey points
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Boating experience desired but not required
- Must possess valid driver’s license
