The Audubon Center at Riverlands is seeking a temporary Avian Point Count Survey Technician to assist with avian monitoring on the Upper Mississippi River System.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Monitor Midwestern avian species presence in the field by both sight and sound using point-count survey techiques.
- Assist with facilitation of monitoring logistics.
- Data management and data entry tasks.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Conservation, Natural Sciences, or related field required
Skills/Experience:
- Experience with avian point counts
- Identification of Midwestern birds by sight and sound desired
- Attention to detail and accuracy when gathering data
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work early hours
- Ability to work outdoors in varying climates and conditions (heat, biting insects, wet terrain)
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers and/or interns to when performing point count surveys
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Boating experience desired but not required
- Must possess valid driver’s license
