At the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, sports and fitness activities have always been at the core of our programming. The YMCA is currently taking applications for an experienced leader to manage all sports programs. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Sports Director will provide direct supervision and leadership to all Sports programs and leagues, maintain order and insure that staff and volunteers are utilized appropriately to assure that the events are run properly and in accordance with the purpose and policies of the Association.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The Sports Director will plan, organize, promote, implement, and evaluate all sports programming. This includes evaluating the program needs of members and the community; initiating new programs in harmony with the Association's goals and making appropriate recommendations and changes.
  • He/she will serve as an ambassador for the YMCA, establishing and maintaining cordial relationships and collaborations with other agencies and community groups and will represent the YMCA at community events and on councils as directed.
  • He/she will develop and maintain timely and accurate information for Association brochures as well as additional promotional materials for all physical education and sports programs as needed.
  • He/she will work with the other Directors on scheduling programs for maximum use of the facilities; sharing in the responsibility of cleanliness, maintenance and safety of equipment and facilities.
  • He/she will also secure the use of outside facilities and fields to allow for expansion and continuation of the present programs.
  • The Sports Director will recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and recognize part-time staff and program volunteers and will assure that all staff affiliated with the Sports Department understand and comply with all personnel and other policies.
  • He/she will keep accurate records essential for the control, evaluation and reporting of programs to committees, the Board of Management, and the Executive Director and will assist with developing the annual program budget and manage as approved.
  • He/she will participate on staff committees and will participate in association-wide activities as assigned.
  • As a member of the Waxahachie professional staff, he/she will share responsibility for the administration of the overall branch.
Skills/Experience: 
  • We are looking for applicants who possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to staff, lay leaders, YMCA members, program participants and the general public.
  • The Sports Director should have the ability to communicate well with staff, volunteers and program participants and knowledge of the rules of soccer, basketball, flag football, volleyball, hockey, and possibly other sports.
  • He/she should be a college graduate, or equivalent experience, and a current driver’s license with acceptable record and vehicle liability insurance.
  • He/she must be physically able to move freely throughout the facility and other program sites and to lift 50 pounds.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and walk and must have the visual, hearing, and physical dexterity to substitute as a sports referee.
  • He/she must have the mental ability to remember names and must be able to speak clearly and articulate accurate information.
  • Must complete First Aid/CPR within the first 30 days of employment and is required to complete other training required by the YMCA.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Long & Short Term Disability, 125 Medical & Dependent Care Reimbursement Plan, Employee Assistance Plan, Retirement of 12% paid by the YMCA upon meeting eligibility requirements, and Paid Time Off (PTO).

Salary: $38,000.00 - $43,000.00
