This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics and Sports Director intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. The Director is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing high quality youth and adult sports programs and YMCA aquatics programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Expands programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for programs and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Manages overall program planning and delivery, securing and scheduling the pool and athletic facilities; creating and scheduling the classes, practices and meets, ensuring effective promotion, and ensuring quality delivery and participant satisfaction.
- Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
- Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
- Organizes and conducts sports clinics.
- Coordinates with Development Director and CEO to identify program-related grants and engages in proposal writing to secure grant funding.
- Coordinates and supports assigned aspects of the annual support campaign at the branch.
- Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Minimum age of 21.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $33,000.00 - $36,000.00
