This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Wellness Advisor Coordinator at the Greater Waterbury Y monitors and performs assigned duties in the Wellness Center ensuring our members are safe, satisfied, educated and supported. Interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals. Creates a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for all Ready Set Go (RSG) materials; keep them current and manage content.
- Responsible for RSG schedule; organized and free of errors.
- In cooperation with the Program Specialist, trains both current and new staff members on RSG program and shift specific floor responsibilities.
- Responsible for creating and implementing new secondary wellness programs and incentive programs
- Greets and welcomes all members upon arrival
- Schedules Ready Set Go initial appointments and follow-ups
- Weighs Brass City Meltdown participants
- Conducts Polar Body Age assessments
- Conducts interviews with new member to understand their needs and personal goals. Helps them to develop plans to meet their individual needs.
- 10. Conducts Free motion machine orientation
- 11. Makes confirmation calls to program members and records and documents information
- Conduct daily functionality checks of cardio equipment according to schedule, log appropriately all needed repairs or issues.
- Conducts daily administrative, cleaning and maintenance of Wellness Center and its equipment.
- Organizes equipment in free weight area
- Enforces the facility rules
- Ensures the safety of the Wellness Center and adherence to the YMCA code of conduct at all times.
- Addresses member needs, concerns and problems as needed
- Be aware of and follows all Emergency procedures
- Follows and promote the YMCA Philosophy
- Refers clients into the Personal Training Program as appropriate
- Coach’s members in support of their desired behavior change without always prescribing the answer.
- Introduces new members to group exercise communities based their health and well-being goals.
- Regularly checks on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals (both formally and informally).
- Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Observes and adjusts approach to support members’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
- Celebrates the achievements of members’ related to personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
- Music volume in the wellness center should not go beyond indicated max on dial and a variety of music for all ages should be rotated.
- Participates in Y special events as requested.
- All other duties assigned by supervisor
Skills/Experience:
- Is physically active and has a passion for health and fitness.
- Must be a “morning” person! *Hours are: 5 am - 1 pm Mon-Fri
- General knowledge of wellness trends.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
