Under the guidance of the Outdoor Center Director, the Outdoor Center Program Director will lead all aspects of the development and implementation of the Greater Waterbury YMCAs Camp Oakasha, Youth and Family Programs, YMCA Camp Mataucha Programs, will assist in School Age program and 21st Century Program.   The incumbent will execute year round plans in regards to communication with parents and program participants, campers and staff.  This position requires a passion for and understanding of the significant impact that the programs offered by the Waterbury YMCA can have in the life of a child.  The incumbent must be able to build strong relationships with all participants, their parents/families and thus must be proficient with active listening skills; demonstrate patience; have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and to do so with a diverse population in a fast-paced environment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist with all Outdoor Center programs including Teambuilding, Environmental Education, School Group Rentals and Facility Rentals.
  • Assist in the development of year round plans for Outdoor Center programs.
  • Provide direct leadership for all Outdoor Center programs.
  • Work directly with school system on the development of all program curriculums.
  • Coordinate all Vacation Camp Programs at YMCA Camp Mataucha
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Vacation Camp staff.
  • Work with the Outdoor Center Director on the registration process, promotion and marketing.
  • Develop and facilitate Vacation Camp programs and events.
Educational Background: 
The incumbent must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The incumbent must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills and have demonstrated successful skills in communication with parents.
  • Must have experience developing and managing a budget or have demonstrated proficiency in skills related to developing and managing a budget.
  • Must have experience working with the Office of Early Childhood for licensing for both Youth Camps and/or Child Care. 
  • Must have successful experience in developing and implementing youth programs in a variety of settings. 
  • This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have demonstrated strong leadership skills. Must be able to multi-task, be detail oriented, and have strong organizational skills.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to work independently.
  • Must have demonstrated successful experience in training, supervising, and developing supervisory/non supervisory staff and volunteers.
  • Must have strong problem solving skills and the ability to make sound judgments related to all aspects of the program.

Required Certifications

  • This position requires current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid. Lifeguard certification is preferred.
  • Must have or be physically able to achieve High Ropes, Low Ropes and Archery certifications.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$30,000.00 - $34,000.00
