The Position and Leadership Opportunity

Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) seeks a Chief Community Impact Officer (CCIO) to lead the next evolution of the Foundation’s programmatic and philanthropic work. The CCIO is an essential member of the executive leadership team fulfilling a bold vision to improve the health and wellness of Alaskans living in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (Mat-Su). Striving for equity and experienced in using epidemiological and public health approaches to ignite community action, the CCIO will ensure all aspects of MSHF programs connect to mission and vision and create positive health impacts across Mat-Su communities.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CCIO facilitates discovery, informs prevention-focused solutions, and supports analysis to reinforce mission alignment. The CCIO embraces the organization’s values of prevention, access, wellness, fairness, equity, collaboration, and leadership. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leadership

  • Provide oversight, direction, mentorship, and change management; ensuring effective and efficient collaboration across the organization to achieve strategic goals and board directives.
  • Champion a learning organization and oversee implementation of the Foundation’s Theory of Change, which takes epidemiological and community-driven approaches to inform strategy and investments.
  • Create tangible alignment between the organization's strategic plan, the departmental goals and metrics, and the annual operating plan that defines where and how MSHF allocates its resources.
  • Serve as an ambassador of MSHF; represent the organization at the local, state, and national level, which includes up to 25% travel.

Health Equity Promotion and Organizational Culture

  • Mobilize support for centering equity in the Foundation’s philanthropy and across its systems, structures, policies, assessments, and teams; help ensure the Foundation is building, sharing, and distributing power appropriately.
  • Co-lead MSHF’s health equity and inclusivity initiatives; develop the programmatic talent and processes to dovetail and support the Foundation’s internal DEI initiatives led by the Chief Operating Officer.    
  • Foster a healthy, inclusive, and productive organizational culture; model and be part of creating an environment that promotes great performance and positive morale.

Programmatic Oversight and Cross-Program Collaboration

  • Provide visionary leadership to the program team; set strategic direction that elevates the engagement of each team member and allows programs to thrive independently and collaboratively.
  • Directly supervise Director of Data and Impact, Director of R.O.C.K. Mat-Su, Director of Connect Mat-Su, and two Senior Program Officers overseeing scholarships, grants focus areas, and identified initiatives.
  • Facilitate cross-program collaboration that aligns to organizational goals, leverages diverse strengths of each program for collective success, and blends programmatic impacts into a cohesive strategic vision and deepens community engagement.
  • Support program leaders in the development of a combined annual programmatic budget of approximately $19M; work with Chief Financial Officer to monitor progress.
  • Work with program staff to create a process for generation and due diligence for individual grants exceeding $5M. Help to define and implement board-adopted goals for the $15M MacKenzie Scott gift.
  • Serve as liaison for the programmatic work of the Foundation to the Board of Directors; including active support of MSHF’s Program and Health Equity Committees of the Board.
  • In partnership with Senior Program Officers and Directors, operationalize strategies, goals and plans of the Foundation; creating necessary policies, procedures, and workflows to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • In partnership with Director of Data and Impact, evaluate the impact of the Foundation’s investments and initiatives; update, create, and deploy evaluation tools to strengthen cross-program integration; use data as a framework for communication regarding the community’s health and the Foundation’s work.
  • Work with the President/CEO to ensure that the philanthropic initiatives and hospital ownership of the Foundation reach maximum synergy in alignment with the Foundation’s strategic plan and in compliance with the Affordable Care Act, which mandates completion of a triennial Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Plan.

Internal and External Relationships

  • In partnership with the Executive Leadership Team, cultivate relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
  • Work with the President/CEO and the Chief Communications Officer to effectively tell the story of the Foundation’s impact and engage the community in helping to realize the vision.
  • Engage in the community, serving as a resource for connecting MSHF’s programmatic work and outcomes to the well-being portfolio and public health.
  • Intentionally communicate MSHF strategy and outcomes to identified community health needs, addressing challenges and opportunities.

Education

  • Master’s degree in public health, public administration, social work or related field or 10 years of progressive experience in related environments.

 Skills and Expertise

  • Solid understanding and experience in public health principles, systems change, and community outreach. Commitment to epidemiological, public health framework.
  • At least 5 years of experience working with diverse communities, coalitions, and/or groups on health and social issues.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of organizational management experience, including coaching, managing, and developing high-performing teams; experience guiding and empowering large teams managing diverse and complex programs and services.
  • Proven ability to nurture and sustain relationships and work effectively in collaboration.
  • Experience fostering learning and growth in service to equity-centered practices and culture.
  • Expertise in policy and movement-building to advance equity work.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to think strategically, politically, and programmatically.
  • Alaska and Mat-Su knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated self-motivated conduct with excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational development experience, including leading and managing change.
  • Experience with collective impact models, preferred.
  • Industry experience with philanthropy, health systems, or nonprofit organizations, preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

The target salary range is $149,500 to $179,500 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Mat-Su Health Foundation offers a comprehensive benefits package and is an at-will employer.
