The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is a tenured nonprofit organization serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The Y provides programs and services to meet the needs of the community through our three signature pillars: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Our YMCA Anthony Bowen located at 1325 W Street, NW Washington, DC is currently looking to hire a new team member a Wellness (aka Fitness) Director to lead the wellness department at a full facility Y. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge, experience and passion for healthy living initiatives and programs.
Some of the exciting things you will do as a Wellness Director include but are not limited to:
- Lead the branch wellness team in implementing the Association’s best practice model for excellence in wellness programming and operations.
- Ensure that outstanding Wellness experiences are provided to all members (i.e. supporting the development of motivating monthly member activity calendars, leading excellent wellness floor services, supporting the delivery of outstanding personal wellness training experiences, inspiring excellent new member on-boarding experiences, etc.) to increase member satisfaction and participation in wellness activities.
- Support the development of the Personal Trainers, Wellness Coaches, Group Exercise Coordinator and Group Exercise Instructors in enhancing member experiences.
- Support the delivery of Community Healthy programs (i.e. Diabetes Prevention Program) in concert with the YMCA’s Community Health leadership team.

Supporting our members throughout all stages of their healthy living journey at the YMCA is key to achieving our Association’s strategic priority of enhancing the region’s health and well-being.
- The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five-years’ experience working within a Wellness/Fitness department, supervisory experience, a record of delivering excellent personal training management and instruction.
- Must possess a current nationally recognized fitness certifications (i.e. ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, NSPA).
- Must have current first aid, CPR, and other safety certification.
- Experience working with Community Health programs, a plus. An undergraduate degree (or advanced degree) in exercise science, kinesiology, nutrition or physical education is required.
- Effective leadership skills and strong work ethic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite computer skills, ability to learn a propriety software, payroll processing, scheduling and general office equipment.
- Flexible work schedule with the availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
