The Visitor Experience Representative (VXR) is a dynamic individual that assists with the daily operations of the Public Experiences division. The VXR is the face of the National Geographic Society and must embody the brand and institution. VXRs are the frontline for the National Geographic Museum and events; so this individual must ensure a high quality, educational, efficient, and friendly experience for all visitors. VXRs will handle ticketing operations, customer service, and provide additional interpretative opportunities as needed. This is a flexible role and hours will vary; working evenings, weekends, and holidays are a regular occurrence.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage crowd control and visitor traffic flow and anticipate opportunities to assist visitors. Maintain an upbeat and positive attitude to ensure visitors have a pleasant and memorable experience. Provide information on wayfinding, facilities and other experience related questions to visitors in person and over the phone. Respond to and resolve customer complaints and concerns, escalating to a supervisor when necessary. (50%)
  • Learn and efficiently operate point of sale ticketing software in order to successfully sell and scan tickets for all Public Experiences, both in person and over the phone. Operate and staff museum exhibits as needed and assist with lectures and special events. (30%)
  • Assist with creating and researching interpretative programming opportunities to enrich visitor experience; including, but not limited to, tours and drop-in programs. (20%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 6+ months of experience working with visitors and/or customers preferably in a museum, theater, or similar setting.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate well in public settings.
  • Flexibility and positivity in dealing with new experiences and people.
  • Experience with, or ability to learn and use databases and ticketing software.
  • Ability to spend at least half the day walking/standing in public spaces. Available to work weekend, holiday, and evening hours.
