Supervising Senior Paralegal and Contracts Manager

Provides a variety of paralegal services to assist attorneys in various aspects of legal work, including preparing legal documents, maintaining legal records, managing the drafting, review and signature of contracts, and special projects as assigned.  Assists with general office operations, including supervising the paralegal staff and the office administrative assistant.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Produce high quality work product, including drafting legal documents under attorney supervision to be consistent with prior documents of a similar nature.
  • Make decisions, exercise resourcefulness, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Manage the company-wide process for attorney review, signing, filing, and maintenance of contracts for a complex organization and a busy legal department.
  • Provide training to attorneys and staff on the contract management process and the software used within the department for record-keeping purposes.
  • Maintain annual registrations with states as required by statutes.
  • Provide copies of legal documents as requested by other departments within NPR.
  • As requested, help administer the legal intern hiring process, including posting and updating OGC internship opportunities on law school websites, review intern applications, schedule interviews.
  • Coordinate with NPR’s IT department the installation of software updates and upgrades and the troubleshooting of software issues on behalf of the OGC.
  • Assign projects to support staff and oversee completion.
  • Assist attorneys within the department with special projects and research tasks as requested.
  • Juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Professionally and effectively communicate with all levels of staff within NPR, and with external partner groups. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following substantive areas of law is desired: contracts law, digital media; intellectual property, including copyright, trademark and/or fair use; information services and technology; labor and employment law; FOIA and trust and estate matters.  
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or legal analyst managing and maintaining a large volume of commercial contracts and/or other legal records in a company, law firm maintaining a large volume of commercial contracts and/or other legal records in a company, law firm or government agency.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a proven track record of forging relationships among stakeholders.
  • First-rate organizational and analytical skills.
  • Well-developed sense of judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Skilled PC operator with advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite; well-developed Internet, document management, and legal research skills.
  • Excellent drafting skills, with the ability to achieve consistent language across agreements that are similar in nature.   
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat required; experience using Salesforce, eDocs or other contract management software preferred.
  • A willing spirit, patience, and humor in undertaking tasks required to accomplish the work of the Office of the General Counsel in serving NPR.
