Staying Sharp, Senior Designer

Plays an integral role in helping AARP achieve its goal of driving sustainable growth through the best-in-class use of research.  Focuses on working on creating scientifically valid uses of Staying Sharp through university research.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Creates and defines the visual design for assigned projects, including visual interface design systems and elements, new page design layouts, typography, photography/imagery, buttons, promotions, rich-media, design templates, and other graphical needs within the existing brand guidelines.
  • Oversees Staying Sharp digital (web, tablet, mobile) and printed design concepts for products, as well as vision, marketing, sales, and internal purposes.
  • Provides oversight from concepts through final Photoshop files and optimized web assets.
  • Creates design style guides for all of Staying Sharp product lines.
  • Manages contract team members and agencies.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design (Master’s degree preferred)
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years of experience in interactive, user experience design on the interactive agency, web development firm, or client side, with a strong preference for media or membership.   
  • Strong graphic design experience in digital media.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver XML, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, and CSS) and have an excellent understanding of how design and programming work in tandem.
  • Web site and/or Micro site design experience.
  • Experience managing agencies.
  • Experience adhering to visual standards and guidelines.
  • Experience using consumer research and/or usability testing to discover, define, and clarify user-centric changes in the Web environment. 
  • Proven knowledge of user-centric web standards, design, and usability.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment, respond quickly to changing business needs/timelines, maintain relentless attention to detail, and complete quality projects on time.
  • Must be a strong, clear communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping.
