Part of AARP’s Policy, Research and International (PRI) group, the AARP Thought Leadership team works across the enterprise to position AARP as a global thought leader and engages with provocative thinkers to bring in the best ideas from a wide range of perspectives.
The Senior Vice President of Thought Leadership, works closely with the Chief Public Policy Officer (CPPO) to develop and implement a vision and strategy for AARP Thought Leadership and AARP International (in close conjunction with the VP of International).
- Demonstrate courage, integrity, imagination, accountability and resolve.

- Create a culture of and broader competency in thought leadership across AARP.
- Cultivate relationships and credibility with both internal and external partners.
- Discover and build new and impactful opportunities for external engagement.
- Lead the design and execution of premier innovative convenings with thought leaders that challenge the status quo, inspire change and result in real impact.
- Work closely with enterprise partners to strategically and seamlessly align thought leadership efforts with enterprise objectives.
- Collaborate with partners across PRI to effectively develop projects, drive impact, and communicate about our work.
- Lead and inspire a highly talented team to deliver on our thought leadership strategy in the key areas of health, wealth, social connection and the longevity economy.
- Be a voice of inspiration, insight and authority across the organization and externally.

Required skills:
- Demonstrated success in strategy-based marketing, innovation, communications, idea design and inspiration.
- 10 or more years relevant experience.
- 5 or more years of people management experience, cultivating a high-performing, healthy team with authentic communication and continuous coaching.
- Track record of strong leadership that combines imagination, courage and curiosity.
- Demonstrated ability to forge fruitful internal and external partnerships.
- Excellent interpersonal and influence skills to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities and styles.
- Knowledge of policy issues relevant to AARP.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management. Demonstrated diplomatic, networking, and delegation skills.
