Responsible for management of strategic, high-level projects, coordinating input from across the Association to deliver communications products and unified, consistent messages. Leads, manages and coordinates cross-cutting communications efforts in support of AARP’s strategic goals and Dashboard objectives. Provides a wide array of writing and editing projects for internal audiences, including management, leadership, executives and board members. Identifies clear, concise messaging that “connects the dots,” strengthens employee engagement, and exemplifies AARP’s organizational character.
- Plays a key role in identifying, developing, integrating, and executing Association-wide communications strategies in support of AARP’s vision, strategic priorities, and Dashboard goals.
- Provides strategic communications advice, analysis and counsel to management and clients on a range of projects involved in developing, achieving, and assessing the effectiveness of AARP’s communications priorities and strategies.
- Develops strategies, systems, and procedures to facilitate day-to-day management of operations through matrix management.
- Drafts Management Memos to help managers stay informed of key enterprise developments.
- Edits a wide variety of internal communications materials and serves as a consultant/advisor to internal clients on a range of communications issues.
- Facilitates two-way communication between employees and managers.
- Coordinates and implements multiple projects that contribute to the achievement of AARP priorities. Maintains extensive knowledge of communications and staff expertise to ensure quality guidance on best practices and develop communications strategies.
- Assists in the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy and work plan to define and achieve Internal Communications objectives, aligned with AARP’s strategic plan and Dashboard goals.
- Exhibits a strong understanding of communications activities, projects, issues and goals.
- Serves as a liaison on various committees, task forces, etc. Represents the department at meetings and conferences as requested.
- Exhibits AARP values at in all interactions.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in related fields and project management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent planning and management skill desirable.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Fluency in contemporary social media channels
- Ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Ability to coordinate the activities of, and work effectively with staff, volunteers and outside resources.
