The Senior Associate Director of Policy Field Operations is responsible for guiding the planning and management of key Public Policy field projects involving Regional Designees and policy staff. This person will plan and support the training, skill building and talent development opportunities and meetings of Policy staff in the field. They will serve as a liaison between the Regional Designees and D.C. Policy Team that support functional needs, training programs, logistics and help troubleshoot issues on the ground. This person will work closely with the Field Operations and the Federal and State Policy staff to ensure successful communications and strategy development for Regional Designees across the country.
This position is based at the Association’s Public Policy office in Washington, D.C. and will report to the Senior Director of Field Operations.
- Plans, manages and coordinates key cross-departmental projects and training.
- Prepares or reviews materials that provide guidance to the Policy Division, including policy briefs, timely tool kits or facts sheets, white papers, and special reports.
- Develops and coordinates in-person and web-based education and training for field staff on a wide array of topics and policy issues; anticipates and targets different levels of skill training.
- Manages logistics associated with convening briefings, teleconferences, and other policy development activities.
- Provides support for key speaking engagements and written communications.
- Consults with field representatives to troubleshoot on specific topics as requested and collaboratively develop action plans.
- Ensures logistics and details for planning the face to face meetings in D.C., regional meetings in the Chapter network, occasional special events, ongoing Public Policy functions such as monthly meetings, new staff orientation, and leadership development.
- Develops materials for the AIM Advocacy Forum Staff meetings and Regional Designee train the trainer sessions prior to the Forum.
- Works with the Sr. Director of Field Operations and other Leadership staff to provide guidance and insight to the Strategic Planning process and support field efforts in this regard.
- Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience in policy, issue advocacy, or volunteer management
- Successful experience in advocacy/community organizing/mobilization, and grassroots campaigns
- Experience in volunteer recruitment, management, and leadership building preferred
- Detailed knowledge of state and federal government activities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to partner effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public with diverse levels of knowledge
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Google products; familiarity with CRM and integrated databases preferred
- Adept at simultaneously managing multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
- Ability and willingness to travel by air and ground transport to regional or Chapter offices throughout the country and locally up to 30%.
