National Geographic seeks a highly analytical, self-motivated, quick study with keen attention to detail to join the Measurement, Evaluation, and Research team. The position will manage the day-to-day administration of the Society’s research panels, draft and program surveys and other research instruments, analyze data, and prepare insights for various stakeholders in appropriate detail. The successful candidate is organized, conscientious, and passionate about research for a purpose. Candidates must have experience in survey design and data analysis.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Organize and manage most aspects of survey research studies, including the day-to-day administration of the Society’s proprietary research panels, providing input on methodology and sample design, drafting qualitative or quantitative instruments, programming and pre-testing online surveys, and deploying and monitoring research in the field. (50%)
- Prepare and analyze survey data or other research outputs, draft insights, and create reports, presentations, data visualizations, and/or other means of communicating insights to internal audiences. (40%)
- Support other team members with ad-hoc requests. (10%)
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree with some prior related research-related work experience required. Master’s preferred, in survey research, statistics, social sciences, or related field.
Skills/Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in quantitative research, with at least 1 directly and independently managing quantitative projects.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Some past experience in research study and sampling design and experience working with a wide variety of research methodologies and tools.
- Highly skilled at developing optimal survey question wording and question order.
- Proficient with statistical packages (preferably Stata, R or Q).
- Proficient with running frequencies, crosstabs, and banners.
- Advanced user of Powerpoint and/or Keynote.
- Superior attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. A solid command of grammar, syntax, and usage is essential.
- Excellent and proven project coordination and time management skills, ability to set priorities, and deliver on time.
- Bonus points for proficiency with infographic tools and Tableau.
- Extra bonus points for proficiency with proprietary research panels/communities (Toluna, Confirmit, Vision Critical, etc.).
