Assists management and the leadership team by leading and managing strategic priority operations, marketing, development/deployment, and integration initiatives to deliver on the AARP Driver Safety mission and to maximize social impact.  Focuses on strategic priorities to meet the business needs of a national program, which includes multiple transportation and mobility education, product, and service solutions, which delivers service through more than 5,000 volunteers and more than 500,000 participants annually.  Assists the leadership team with operations, marketing, and program specific strategic planning, analysis, reporting, and implementation efforts.  Manages designated key business and organizational relationships internally and externally.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Establishes and manages the building of the strategic direction and operational infrastructure for current and new AARP Driver Safety programs.
  • Designs new program engagement, behavior, and impact assessments.
  • Streamlines participant registration processes.
  • Provides program bundling and cross-communication and marketing efforts.
  • Assists in volunteer recruitment, training, and onboarding procedures.
  • Designs strategies and tactics for new programs, including the planning process from idea to implementation phase, managing relationships with the contractors and sponsors, liaising with internal stakeholders and volunteers, establishing a timeline for achieving success, and ensuring all relevant parties remain on track to meet goals.
  • Advises on the annual budget and work plan, showing the activities and resources that will support a program redesign or implementation with guidance/collaboration from management.
  • Manages the Volunteer Portal (system) optimization.
  • Serves as a liaison to the appropriate work group in an effort to advocate on behalf of the team/volunteers.  Ensures that the technology and processes built for volunteers provides the necessary functionality to sustain and grow all programs, including managing requirements and design of systems for recruitment, onboarding and training, CVent integration, site/host management, expense management, and reporting.
  • Leads system/platform/software updates, builds and integrates efforts, including online registration.
  • Identifies, investigates, analyzes, and recommends solutions to a wide range of operational activities, to include but is not limited to, communications, business processes, technological systems, and new program initiatives and policies. 
  • Manages the strategic planning of deliverables committed to sponsors/grantors impacting the Program, in collaboration with colleagues and management, in consultation with management.
  • Seeks opportunities for sharing knowledge with appropriate audiences to increase learning in the field and to advance program goals. 
  • Leads efforts on developing strategies for cross-program bundling, price elasticity evaluation, with oversight from management. 
  • Provides strategic thinking, planning, and implementation efforts to expand on volunteer program integration and local marketing.
  • Contributes to strategy design, bringing depth and programmatic perspective discussion pertaining to current and future programs.  Identifies knowledge gaps and problems within program design and operations of the Driver Safety portfolio of programs and helps the team understand the most effective leverage points for change.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business, Public Policy/Administration or a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in management, business analysis, financial analysis, and management of large budgets, strategic planning, information systems development, and implementation and process improvement/administration. 
  • Management-level experience in large-scale national operations strongly preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. 
  • Experience in supervisory responsibilities, program administration, and volunteer management experience, including delivery of service required. 
  • Proficiency in using contemporary software programs in the completion of duties and responsibilities required. 
  • Experience with complex, national non-profit programs highly desirable.
  • Ability to be creative, to analyze information, to develop, to communicate, and to implement strategies, policies, and procedures.  
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously within a continually changing environment. 
  • Demonstrated project management and people management skills.  
  • Superior written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and partnership development skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating effectively with internal and external entities to achieve maximum success.  Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver on metrics for measuring success in key initiatives.
  • Occasional travel required.
