The Senior Producer, Special Projects will direct and execute the creation of original video content across all phases of production including writing, shooting, production, video editing, motion graphics and music composition, all towards the goal of promoting the work of the National Geographic Society. Additionally, this role manages the Special Projects production team. The Senior Producer, Special Project reports directly to the Impact Media Production Director.
- Producing: Develop, write and produce a wide spectrum of remarkable videos that further the mission of the National Geographic Society – from short web videos to major video projects for high profile events. Guide internal clients through the entire production process, shaping stories, suggesting the right video product for the need, and managing the client relationship. Pitch and develop original video ideas that will achieve the clients’ goals. Coordinate production logistics, direct interviews and field shooting, direct edit sessions, and oversee associate producers in collecting stock footage and other assets. (40%)
- Project Management: Manage all aspects of production, including scheduling, creating and managing project budgets, hiring and managing external vendors and contractors, and overseeing producers, associate producers and assistant editors to ensure all projects deliver on time and on budget. Ensure all projects are fully completed, including making sure media deliverables are archived and all paperwork has been correctly filed. Track projects using existing tracking processes and suggest ways to improve project management and efficiency. (20%)
- Staff Management: Managing a team of in-house Producers, Editors, and Associate Producers through the pre-production, production and post production of all Special Project video creation. Mentors less experienced members of the team. (20%)
- External Vendor Management: Manage the work of external vendors to ensure that all videos meet the goals of the project and National Geographic’s quality standards. Choose appropriate vendors for each project, oversee contract creation, with the assistance of the Production Manager and Director, and hold vendors accountable to deliverables. (20%)
- 10 years experience writing, producing, shooting and editing and at least 3 years of management experience.
Knowledge and Skill Required
- The successful candidate will have a proven record of ambitious, creative, innovative visual storytelling, as well as proven success communicating science and conservation through video campaigns.
- She or he will possess professional management abilities and be adept at client-based media production.
- Must be able to work well as a part of a team, as well as independently.
- Must have the ability to prioritize workflows and strong attention to detail. Excellent written, verbal, communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills are required.
- The successful candidate should have experience creating new video production workflows is necessary, and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
