The Benefits Senior Manager develops and oversees NPR’s benefits policies and programs in support of NPR employees and NPR business strategies and operating objectives. The selected candidate will perform budget manager duties for the Human Resources Department and directs the activities of the benefits’ staff. H quality survey analysis, reporting, and analytical services and administration for major employee benefit programs
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develops and administers NPR’s employee benefits plans, including life, health, dental, vision, retirement, flexible spending and other optional benefit plans. The costs associated with these plans represent 24% of the NPR payroll.
- Forecasts employee benefits costs; develops budget; tracks, analyzes and overseas reconciliation of monthly invoices.
- Works with benefit broker team to develop plan designs as well as negotiates benefit plan premium and cost allocations. Leads communications with union benefit task force..
- Supports management bargaining group with historical and projected financial and statistical information and models for negotiation of union contracts.
- Partners with the Chief Human Resources Officer to direct and administer the Human Resources annual budget, and coordinates financial reporting with the Accounting and Budget departments.
- Develops and implements work structures and processes to ensure proper checks, balances and quality in departmental workflow.
- Hires, evaluates and trains staff.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience:
- Five to ten years’ experience in a corporate Human Resources department strongly preferred.
- Must have demonstrated ability to administer benefit plan processes and procedures typically gained with five years’ experience in a multiple benefit plan environment.
- Experience administering benefits in a unionized organization.
- Proficiency using a PC and Microsoft Office software, in particular Excel; five to ten years’ experience working with databases; experience with HRIS; preferably UltiPro and KRONOS timekeeping system..
- Demonstrated understanding of sound management and supervisory principles required.
- Must be able to handle sensitive personal information about staff members while maintaining complete confidentiality.
- Ability to effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment; and ability to effectively work with a diverse team of individuals required.
- Must demonstrate initiative and independent judgment, as well as strong organizational, communication, quantitative and analytical skills; be able to effectively, patiently and efficiently handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while dealing with significant interruptions.
- Quantitative analysis skills sufficient to forecast costs and develop, monitor and analyze budgets and expenses.
