The Senior Director, National Geographic Society Networked Communities leads NGS efforts to develop and scale three diverse global networks: educators, youth, and explorer/experts. The educator community is designed to connect 1M+ diverse educators with the goal of equipping them with game-changing tools and resources to foster continuous, impactful professional learning; scale and spread effective instructional practice; reduce isolation; elevate the profession; and prepare the next generation of planetary stewards to protect the natural world and live smarter on our planet. The youth networked community is designed to connect 5M diverse, inspired, and engaged youth, ages 15 – 25; to equip them with the tools, supports, and resources to collaborate and learn from each other; develop leadership skills; build significant momentum for collective action; and have visible, meaningful impact on National Geographic imperatives. The Explorer/Expert network will allow educators to directly incorporate scientists, explorers, and other content experts into classroom instruction and meaningful interaction with students. In addition, it will afford educators and students with the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to the explorer work – collecting data and analyzing research from the field that is both relevant to explorer work and classroom instruction. The Senior Director will develop the overall strategy for each of the three communities as well as implementation plans, schedules, and impact measures.
