The Senior Associate, Strategic Planning and Implementation reports to the Director, Strategic Planning and Implementation and works closely with teams across the UN Foundation, including programs, alliances, and other initiatives, Integrated Development, Finance, and Business Services.
Areas of Responsibility:
Strategic planning and resource allocation
- Provide recommendations to senior staff on pan-UNF fundraising decisions based on partner discussions, program fundraising needs and goals, and strategic alignment.
- Advise program design discussions with multiple program teams per partner interests and UNF’s strategic priorities, facilitating strategic conversations and executing discussion next steps and follow up.
- Liaise between campaign/initiative teams, Integrated Development, Strategic Planning, Business Services, and senior leadership, ensuring a flow of communication.
- Provide budget support and guidance for partner-funded activities in conjunction with UNF’s Budget and Finance teams.
- Manage select pan-UNF partnerships during award, implementation and close-out, providing financial and programmatic management support, liaising with partners and internal stakeholders.
- Investigate, negotiate, and help resolve any issues that arise with respect to activities funded by key partners, including finalizing contribution agreements, ensuring internal adherence to donor-specific rules and regulations, and requesting renewals or extensions.
- Manage UNF’s business planning process, updating templates regularly and liaising with teams to ensure deadlines are met and accurate and relevant information is provided for executive leadership.
- Review and provide strategic guidance on quarterly and annual business plans, prior to executive-level review.
- Create and maintain project management tools that teams across the Foundation can utilize for responsible project management.
- Implement ad hoc, internal consulting projects beneficial to the Foundation with other Strategic Planning and Implementation team members.
Analysis and learning
- Assess monitoring and evaluation practices across the Foundation, identifying gaps and recommendations for improvement.
- Lead discussions with program teams on improving current monitoring and evaluation practices, tools, and metrics to tie to annual business planning and funder requirements.
- Develop or revise monitoring and evaluation tools with program teams to adhere to partner requirements and create compelling data for future fundraising.
- Synthesize program-level monitoring and evaluation metrics for UNF-wide utilization and management decision making.
- Craft consistent monitoring and evaluation language for UNF usage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain internal catalogue of monitoring and evaluation frameworks used across the Foundation.
- Maintain updated knowledge bank of monitoring and evaluation trends and approaches across the sector.
Operational Effectiveness
- Conduct mapping exercises, stakeholder meetings and internal analysis to develop informed recommendations to senior leadership to increase efficiency in UNF’s business operations and processes.
Organizational decision-making
- Support the organizational decision-making process through conducting and/or supporting quantitative and qualitative analysis and research to provide leadership with the necessary information to make timely and well-informed decisions.
New initiative development
- Support start-up activities and strategic planning for new campaigns and alliances as the Foundation grows, as needed.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience with grants, proposals and reports, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Exceptional operations and project management skills with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated proposal writing and reporting experience.
- Demonstrated familiarity with budgets, budget processes, and grant and financial management.
- Ability to facilitate program-level monitoring and evaluation discussions.
- Exceptional copyediting skills and keen attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work across departments to accomplish mission.
- Ability to work with senior staff on high-level, strategic planning.
- Proven ability to facilitate staff at all levels to meet external deadlines.
- Ability to develop, maintain, and enjoy effective working relationships with people from a wide variety of organizations and with a wide variety of functional expertise.
