Senior Advisor, Technology Lead Cloud Products

This position is within AARP’s Information Technology Services organization and will report to the Director of Application Support and Maintenance.  The primary responsibilities of the position are the following:

  • lead the product development, evangelism, enhancements, roadmap and app inventory of the AARP Salesforce Cloud
  • migration, re-engineering, re-design and implementation of on-premise applications spread across two data centers to AWS, Azure and/or Salesforce.

The position is a dynamic, multi-faceted, business savvy and highly technical role that will implement and execute on the Cloud Product Roadmap and Cloud Migration Strategy. The role will collaborate with multiple teams within ITS and business units across AARP to successfully manage a diverse Application portfolio consisting of complex internal and external facing applications used by a large user base.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Drives the long-term success of ITS cloud engineering efforts by establishing and maintaining a strong cloud roadmap. The candidate must have a high degree of direct knowledge and a proven record of accomplishment of successful implementation of Iaas, Paas and Saas cloud services. This position’s impact is significant in the overall cloud operations, rollout and migration strategy of ITS over the next 2-3 years. The most significant responsibilities are as follows:

  • Understanding existing application architectures and determining the correct design and implementation techniques for them in the cloud.
  • Creating optimal compute, storage, memory for applications. Determine common design patterns, using cloud reference architectures for applications so that they can be migrated and run faster and cheaper in the cloud.
  • Understanding and explaining the technical, user and budgetary impact of using one cloud platform over another (AWS v/s Azure v/s Salesforce).
  • Understanding and explaining the technical, user and budgetary impact of using cloud native designs.
  • Collaborating with various internal ITS teams and vendors on the entire migration lifecycle, starting from POC’s to design, implementations and post go live support.

COMPLEXITY:

  • This position will oversee a large team of consultants from two outsourced providers. The position will also interact directly with other ITS teams, Directors who manage Infrastructure and Applications for AARP and also with VP’s within ITS.
  • Examples of interdepartmental interactions:
  • Customer Service and Solutions Delivery: Assist CCSD Directors and Delivery Executives by serving as the Salesforce.com, AWS and/or Azure expert on product capabilities, features and roadmap.
  • Infrastructure Teams: works with the infrastructure teams to consult, influence, guide and evangelize the cloud migration techniques and design patterns for ITS Applications. Collaborate with Infrastructure and Operations Engineers as applications are migrated to the cloud.
  • Software Engineering, Development and Integration Teams - Works to collaboratively establish and enable migration of Integration Services to AWS. Leverage experience to help guide migration of existing on-premise services to native and serverless cloud platforms such as Lambda.
  • Enterprise Architecture Team - Work to help establish native cloud architecture implementation standards
  • App Support Teams - Works closely with these teams to determine and implement existing applications to public Paas platforms on Salesforce, AWS and Azure.
  • Vendors – Spearhead and help determine, recruit, mentor and guide consultants on migration projects from on-premise to cloud platforms such as Aws and Azure.
  • Management - Regularly interfaces with senior staff within each ITS functional area.  Will be called upon to provide industry insights and assist with formulating the strategic direction for ITS applications migration to cloud.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Help Envision and lead Development of new products on the force.com platform
  • Manage, Influence and lead the Center of Excellence for the AARP Salesforce.com Platform.
  • Extensive experience with Enterprise Application Development and Release using, Java and Open Source Technologies
  • The ability to participate and lead in the development of a cloud roadmap for existing on-premise applications.
  • Participate in the full application life cycle from technical design to development, testing, security review and deployment.
  • Assist stakeholders with requirements gathering, solution design and ensure successful engagements and project go-lives through disciplined project management
  • Experience with Configuration Management, Source Control and implementing Continuous Integration practices & tools.
  • In-depth, hands on experience with AWS and/or Azure and Salesforce.com
  • A deep understanding of Cloud Native Application Development
  • Ability to Modularize Applications to leverage cloud native
  • Ability to think Information and Data Security into all aspects of product development.
  • Experience leading Quality improvements into Software Development via automation test cases
  • Manage and Maintain Risk Registers to identify and resolve Enterprise Risks
  • Ability to manage Agile delivery establishing iterative Product Release cycles.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand and articulate the different paths to a cloud migration. Understanding of Infrastructure as Code
  • A strong understanding of establishing and configuring of monitoring tools and alerts.
  • Manage diverse Vendor teams to ensure coordination and resolve roadblocks.
