AARP is seeking an organized, self-motivated, detailed-oriented data analyst to fill our Segment Data & Analysis Advisor role.  The candidate will perform a range of activities related to development of member analyses, development of tools and visualizations for ongoing execution of those analyses, and using the results of those analyses to improve promotional and business efficiency.  You will work closely with internal clients from various departments fielding analytic and data requests, and developing solutions using data science and visualization practices.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for data and visualization analytics and have a strong understanding of data concepts and programming skills.  The candidate will use a flexible set of tools in creating their products, whether it is SAS, Databricks, AWS, Tableau, Powerpoint, and be proficient in SAS, SQL, and/or Python/Scala. He or she should be able to work well in a multi-functional team, be able to manipulate and interpret data and business analyses in designing a compelling analytics story.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Uses analytical tools to access and analyze member, campaign, and digital data for use in ad-hoc analytic initiatives.
  • Consults with internal clients to understand business needs, and define analytical approaches and project plans which assure those insights are developed and interpreted.
  • Provides recommendations and insights to departments across the association. Communicates analytical results to non-technical audiences in a clear and concise format.  Craft presentations based on specific business partner audiences, providing the appropriate level of detail required to take action.
  • Partner with data engineering and strategy/planning teams to correctly interpret, understand and use available data.
  • Create regular reports through reporting software to manage dashboards and metrics.
  • Develop and continuously improve measurement approaches, processes, tools and techniques.
  • Within the scope of analytics, fosters good relationships across the association, corporate partners, and vendors, which contribute to success.
Educational Background: 
Undergraduate degree in computer science, statistics, or mathematics.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4 years or more of experience working in Marketing Analysis, Business Analysis, or Consulting preferred.
  • Prior experience in a data-driven environment (membership, health, finance, or insurance organization a plus).
  • Demonstrated experience with SAS, Apache Spark, and proficiency in Tableau.
  • Highly process oriented, with a desire for continuous improvement of processes and associated documentation of efforts.
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to recognize business implications of data.   Strong direct and integrated marketing experience and credentials and strong quantitative analysis skills.
  • Action orientation. A decisive, quick study with proven analytical ability and strategic business and product development/management skills.
  • Excellent oral/written presentation skills; proficiency in preparation and presentation of proposals, analytical reports, and documents regarding programs’ operational status, achievement and performance.
  • Ability to work effectively with people, to gain internal respect and build consensus with superiors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Analytical software skills (SAS, Apache Spark, Tableau) or significant database management skills required; computer skills (Windows, UNIX/Linix, Excel, PowerPoint); understanding of relational database concepts and knowledge of graphics packages desirable.
