Advises clients, stakeholders, and AARP Sevices, Inc. (ASI) senior management on all phases of research, from conceptualization through actualization and resulting recommendations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • 60% of this role is dedicated exclusively to working on the United Health Care (UHC) Consulting services agreement and liaising with the various UHC and ASI staff assigned to the AARP Medicare Supplement program.  This includes, but is not limited to design, management, execution, and socialization of 50+ ongoing/tracking research, panels/communities, and ad hoc studies that are outlined in the research budget in the AARP Medicare Supplement Plan Operating Plan.  From time-to-time, this role also manages research that is paid for out of other department budgets (United Marketing, United Program, Optum, etc.).  Essentially, any research that touches our members and is for the benefit of the plan runs through us. 
  • 40% of this role is dedicated to supporting the BAU health portfolio, including other Health member services quality study studies; Strategy, Innovation and Research (SIR) New Product Development (NPD) 2019 Health Products & Services (HPS) Research (NPD);  SIR’s Awareness Tracking research, Ad hoc research; and other Ad hoc requests.

Successfully manages complex and conflicting relationships among multiple stakeholders.  Directs the primary and secondary research needs for the business, including the organization’s Lifestyle, Business Development and Panel verticals.  Provides value-added insights and consulting within ASI and AARP.   Ensures high-level analytics and best practices in the market research discipline, resulting in actionable recommendations and insights for the business.

  • Advises clients, stakeholders, and ASI senior management on all phases of research, from conceptualization of a research agenda to recommendations for research methodology to recommendations for action growing from the research findings. Successfully manages complex and conflicting relationships among multiple stakeholders.
  • Leads the development of annual research strategic plans for Health vertical with specific emphasis on the (SHIP ) Supplemental Health Insurance Program and ASI Brand.
  • Provides extensive consultative research support to AARP Health providers with a Consulting Services Agreement.
  • Manages major research with broad ASI, United and AARP Association impact. Often responsible for work with high visibility and critical outcomes. Leads in the development of a research agenda to address the critical questions or provide key data required to support priorities. Develops and manages the overall research plan for the area of work; develops and manages specific project work plans; develops and manages project budgets; develops requests for proposals, selects vendors, and manages work of vendors; oversees the work of staff assigned to projects within the work area, providing direction, feedback, and contributing to staff performance reviews. Provides support to other research as required.
  • Conceptualizes and designs complex research projects, including those with high-risk or innovative methodologies, and highly constrained timelines and resources. Designs programs of research in support of strategic activities, as needed.
  • Selects the most appropriate data sources or data collection methods that maximize the value and utility of the research. Oversees vendors who implement the data collection plan.
  • Communicates research findings, often from complex studies or from a program of research by integrating related research and identifying implications of the research for action by decision-makers. Determines methods to communicate research results and prepares reports and materials that maximize communications. Responds effectively to complex and challenging requests for clarification and elaboration of research results.
  • Synthesizes information from a variety of studies to present or address an issue or to answer questions
Educational Background: 
Completion of at least a Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) , in social/behavioral sciences, marketing research or a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years of progressively more responsible professional experience, including research project leadership, with an emphasis on applied research in area such as survey research, evaluation research, market research, communications research, or demographics. Requires highly technical knowledge of applied research methodologies and issues; strong data analysis and statistical skills.
  • Must have in-depth understanding of advanced quantitative research methodologies (Conjoint, Cluster, Factor, TURF, Multivariates, Significance Testing, Sample weighting, etc.)
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with building and working with consumer panels
  • Must have strong understanding of relational databases as well as merging datasets
  • Must be proficient in SPSS.
  • Must have clear and effective oral and written communication skills, enabling information-sharing and interaction with a broad organizational distribution, including executive management and external partners/providers.
  • Must be an excellent storyteller.
  • Must have experience in customer satisfaction survey management.
  • Must be able to create in-depth analytical conclusions from results collected and link those findings with the strategic direction and goals of the organization.
  • Must be expert in developing Power Point presentations/documents.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, build consensus with peers and management, market ideas and influence decision making among key stakeholders
  • Must have proven ability to work with a high degree of independence and to plan, organize, and implement multiple projects within time and budget constraints.
