The Regional Manager supports National Geographic’s new regional educator network in the organization, management, and implementation of projects, programs, operations and financial accounting. Working under the direction of the Director of Regional Operations you will support up to six Regional Directors as they implement action plans for integrating comprehensive regional/state outreach plans aligned to the mission and goals of the National Geographic Society across the country.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Finance: Develop a deep knowledge and understanding of state endowments, restrictions and limitations. Support Regional Directors to manage and prepare budgets and forecasting documents for state and regional activity including reports around state spending, gifts, and endowments. Regularly submit and track expenses for activities in support of state action plans. Work across divisions to support submission and tracking of education spending in states. Coordinate with Finance and Planning and Regional Operations staff on processes and refine as needed. (30%)
- Operations:Manage the operational needs of the Regional Network. Manages timelines, workflow, schedule, calendar, distribution lists and tasks across the regions. Facilitates communication in and among the regional members. Manages tracking for impact of outreach, events, and professional development. (20%)
- Contracts: Manage contract coordination to support the state action plans of up to six Regional Directors. This includes the hiring of contractors, educators, venues, and others for teacher training and other impactful programming. Liaise between contractor, Regional Directors and NGS legal team to ensure contracts and payments are done on time and on budget. (25%)
- Implementation of Programs and Initiatives: Work as a part of a team implementing action plans for integrating comprehensive, large and active regional/state-based outreach programs aligned to the mission and goals of the National Geographic Society. Provide timely resource and event support to Regional Directors for programming throughout the country, including events. Manages programmatic and event budgets, timelines, and other tasks. (15%)
- Monitor state and regional K-12 trends that will impact the development of strategies for National Geographic in the regional and in person community efforts. Stay current on National Geographic Society mission and values, and participate in department-wide initiatives. (10%)
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience:
- 5+ years of leadership and project management
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Financial and contract experience.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills with a high attention to detail; self-direction and motivation; sensitivity to deadline-driven workflow; ability to strategize and handle a variety of projects with changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Stellar written, verbal, and digital communication skills; collaborative, team-oriented work style. Proficiency in Office suite and google suite of products; familiarity with content management and customer relations management systems, database design and management, web analytics tools, technology proficiency and project management tools.
