The Project Manager for Afterschool Education will facilitate the adaptation and creation of National Geographic education resources, educator programs, and other initiatives for the afterschool space as defined in the three-year grant. Resources will include instructional content such as photographs, videos, articles, or other resources. Programming will include virtual connections with an explorer, student competitions, and professional development opportunities for educators in an afterschool environment. The Project Manager will work under the supervision of the Asset Library team and will act as primary liaison between various project partners including the partner organization, afterschool experts, and National Geographic’s business units to ensure all grant deliverables are reached.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as liaison to project partners (internal and external). Manage projects with supervision to meet established goals. Manage timeline, workflow, schedule, calendar, and tasks across project team and partners in order to meet deliverables on time and within budget. Facilitate regular communication between project team members and stakeholders. Manage and write contracts, reports, presentations, proposals, and other business documents. Track, analyze, and report on project budget, invoices/payments, and metrics. (45%)
  • Contribute to the conceptualization of project content and program development. Determine content development needs for projects to meet specific goals. Contribute to the instructional design of resources for afterschool educators. Hire and manage contract staff as necessary including afterschool consultants, topic experts, educator-contributors, and freelance personnel. Review incoming materials from contract writers and work with the editors and afterschool educators to manage the revision process. Align other existing education programs to the needs of afterschool educators (35%)
  • Work closely with internal and external evaluators to maintain content integrity and branding. Communication evaluation results with internal and external stakeholders and use that data to guide future projects and resource development. Work with the strategic communications and marketing teams as needed (10%)
  • Participate in society and department-wide programs and innovation. Stay current with National Geographic Society mission, programs, initiatives, and media, and assist the team in leveraging these assets for educational use. Keep up with trends, research, and updates in the fields of education, geography, and National Geographic. Assemble summary reports of resources, research, and trends for various audiences (10%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university. Concentrations in any of the following disciplines—Education, Social Studies, History, Geography, Science, or English Language Arts—a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years in project management experience. Education and experience may be combined to meet this requirement. Experience and understanding of afterschool education preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is essential. Experience in project management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills. Highly effective organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Project Management tools, Office Suite, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Suites.
