Under the supervision of a Senior Program Officer, and the Director, and in relation to the GCF AE and MDB partnerships, the Program Officer will research, plan, manage, communicate, and implement program/project priorities, activities and reporting timelines, manage all internal and external communication and tracking websites, assist in the provision of GCF trainings to the WWF Network and other partners, and in the development and planning of country/regional, thematic, or other field projects.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Technical backstopping to ensure overall operationalization of the WWF GCF AE within WWF US, including knowledge management, relationship management, and portfolio-level management.
  • Manage WWF GCF internal network and external communication, including development/management of websites, documents, videos, and ongoing and ad hoc tasks;
  • Support and/or lead WWF network GCF capacity building and training needs;
  • Manage administrative functions to support program and project management by responding to requests for oral and written information. Work directly with project personnel, grantees, donors, consultants, and others to facilitate coordination, communication, and regular reporting. Involved with outreach to donors from corporate, non-profit, and governmental sectors.
  • Contribute to the development of regional or programmatic planning. Involved in the development of program strategy. Participate in stakeholder and partner group meetings 
  • Develop, plan and implement oversight of new and ongoing projects and grants. Develop and analyze project operating plans and grant budgets.
  • Research and develop fundraising proposals and plans for funding from private foundations, investors and/or government aid agencies. Prepare and finalize scopes of work, budgets, and administrative information for contracts and to ensure compliance with donor requirements.
  • Review the performance outcomes and status of all activities and evaluate and report these results, as well as make recommendations for corrective action.
  • May travel to project sites to monitor and evaluate project progress and report back, verbally and in writing. May supervise consultants in their work toward project and program goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze new technical information, policy development issues, and trends related to the program and advises others accordingly. Keep abreast of issues in areas in which WWF has an ongoing interest. Responsible for acquiring and gathering data relevant to specific conservation projects from conservation peers, governmental agencies, and universities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned 
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A graduate degree in a related field is preferred, such as natural resources management, environmental science, international development, or conservation policy.
  • Position requires a minimum of four years of experience in program management, climate change adaptation/mitigation programming, or natural resources management as well as an understanding of international climate change issues. (A graduate degree will substitute for 2 years of experience).
  • Prior experience with reviewing, drafting and/or writing proposals is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, budgeting, and monitoring donor compliance
  • Excellent research and writing skills required
  • Strong analytical skills needed
  • Excellent project management, coordination, and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments across time zones
  • Ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities
  • Interpersonal skills requiring patience, courtesy, tact and diplomacy necessary to effectively communicate within a multicultural team, WWF network colleagues, and with senior government partners from around the world.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international relations and environmental policy, especially multilateral public finance institutions, including the Global Environment Facility and Green Climate Fund;
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel internationally for up to two weeks at a time (10%)
  • Excellent English oral and writing communication skills; Proficiency in Spanish is desired
