With guidance and support from the Deputy Goal Lead/ Senior Director, the Program Officer supports WWF’s Free-Flowing Rivers initiative, including partnership management, global project development, implementation and oversight, research and policy engagement, GIS and technical analysis, monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management. The Program Officer will work closely with WWF National Offices and field teams, the WWF Freshwater Practice, the WWF Science team, other Goal and Influence teams, and external partners to ensure that priority activities of the Free-Flowing River initiative are being executed.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Support FFR engagement and project management in specific geographies, e.g. Myanmar, Cambodia, KAZA, Zambia, Tanzania through facilitation of communication between and among teams, partnership management, project development, management and, oversight, reporting, and knowledge management, and monitoring and evaluation
- Support report writing, proposal development and resource mobilization
- Liaise with Science team and other WWF offices for technical, research, policy and other insights related to Free-Flowing Rivers and freshwater conservation as needed
- Support technical assessment, map making, knowledge management, reporting and M&E
- Support communications and outreach for Free-Flowing Rivers initiative
- Engage and support WWF NOs and liaison with other goal and influence teams to connect and link Free-Flowing Rivers initiative with other critical WWF priorities
Educational Background:
Bachelors degree in Environmental or Freshwater Science or related field. Master’s Degree Preferred
Skills/Experience:
- 4 years relevant experience with Bachelors Degree, 2 years with Adv Degree
- Understanding of and passion for river or freshwater conservation
- Excellent Writing and public speaking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working cross-culturally
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and workstreams; good organizational and time management skills
- Advanced GIS and Python programming skills preferred
- Must be willing to travel up to 25%
