The Program Associate, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will report to the Vice President for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and will work with staff, chapters, volunteers, and partners to facilitate the incorporation of EDI principles throughout the organization.  The Program Associate will assist the Vice President and the team with developing, coordinating and implementing education and training that results in the shared understanding of these principles and quantifiable tracking measures.  Responsibilities will include coordinating communications and providing technical support for projects and activities that convey skills, knowledge and expertise about best practices, national models, tools and strategies.  Responsibilities also include supporting inclusive, effective outreach and engagement with diverse constituencies, networking, and relationships that strengthen collaboration, partnerships, and multicultural participation in nature experiences and conservation learning opportunities.      

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In collaboration with the Vice President, EDI and staff, design an integrated schedule of in-person gatherings and other learning and networking opportunities that deliver Audubon’s capacity-building program and foster peer-to-peer learning;
  • Lead, coordinate and collaborate with teams, workgroups, committees, cohorts, interns, fellows, and local, state, and national organizations, communities, and partners including communications and other outreach activities;
  • Conduct research and identify best practices, models, tools and strategies that will build skills and equip and engage staff and chapters in advancing EDI efforts throughout Audubon;
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and track projects, events, meetings, conference calls, and deadlines, including notetaking, regular updates, reports, materials distribution, and communications;
  • Design surveys, conduct research as needed, set up and maintain databases, and spreadsheets, data analysis;
  • Draft and review communications, memoranda, reports, materials, surveys, and other relevant content;
  • Work with writers, editors and journalists to develop and produce EDI content and marketing materials and/or videos for the website, social media, publication, and other proprietary uses; 
  • Update and maintain the internal EDI Intranet web page.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in political science, environmental justice, environmental science, natural resource management, communications or related field required;
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years’ experience conducting research, designing surveys, and data analysis;
  • Excellent understanding of environmental justice, environmental and conservation policy issues required;
  • Demonstrated experience working with racially and ethnically diverse and/or low-income communities;
  • Demonstrated skills in community and stakeholder outreach, communications, and relationship management;
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills; effective listening, probing, and assessment skills, and ability to collaborate and motivate diverse team members, volunteers and partners essential;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to build consensus amongst diverse individuals;
  • Project management and problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and goals;
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database management required- Experience with sharepoint technology a plus;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional travel, as the job demands.
