NRDC Action Fund is seeking Program Assistant to support the Executive Director and work with our team in NRDC’s Washington, DC office. The NRDC Action Fund is an affiliated but separate organization from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Our mission is to build political support in the United States for protecting the planet and its people. In addition to holding elected officials accountable for their votes and lobbying political leaders to implement the Clean Power Plan, we have endorsed a presidential candidate for the first time, as well as a powerful list of environmental champions for the U.S. Senate. This year will be pivotal in our fight to protect our nation’s environmental legacy.
The Program Assistant will bring a high level of organization and initiative to supporting the Executive Director and the six-member staff, as well as their interactions with the Action Fund board and the NRDC staff. This position offers the opportunity to learn/gain exposure to political advocacy strategy and management early in their career while also supporting the Executive Director.
- Provide administrative support for the Executive Director (ED) including travel support, logistical support, expense reimbursements, and timesheets.
- Manage the ED’s calendar for appointments, meetings, and conferences as needed.
- Work with ED (and others as necessary) to ensure the preparation of the agendas for the Action Fund’s regularly scheduled, reoccurring meetings.
- Work with the ED, Director of Operations and others as necessary to ensure that the to-do’s from mtgs are captured, shared and completed by ED and others.
- Works with the ED and AF team members to provide strategic management and support of the Executive Director’s time with a strong understanding of priorities, ability to serve as a gatekeeper to ensure his time is used for only the highest-value reasons, and support on preparation for and follow up from meetings.
- Supports the ED in ensuring that the major Action Fund programs and projects are proceeding on a schedule and that important milestones and to-do’s are being met
- Provides research support and produces first drafts of emails and other documents as directed by the ED.
- Provide logistical support for Action Fund all-staff meetings, public events, and conferences.
- Process invoices and other administrative forms
- Strong interest in issue advocacy and electoral campaigns required.
- Prior electoral or issue advocacy campaign experience a plus.
- Strong writing skills
