The Impact Media Production team creates over 600 videos each year and the Production Manager will play a crucial role in managing the production of all videos, keeping projects on schedule and within budget. The Production Manager reports to the Director, Impact Media Production, within the National Geographic Society Impact Media department.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Scheduling and Workflow: Manage schedules and milestones for all Impact Media Production projects, from intake to delivery. Track multiple projects at any given time, ensuring delivery dates are met and staff are properly allocated. Flag any issues affecting budget, legal compliance, and scheduling to Director. As a new team within NGS, Impact Video needs to develop new systems and workflows for project intake, staff scheduling, and project tracking. The Production Manager will take the lead in creating and managing these systems. (25%)
  • Manage Vendors: The Production Manager will be the main point of contact for all vendor contracts and invoices. She or he will negotiate agreements, draft contracts, generate purchase order requisitions, process, and track all project-related invoices. (25%)
  • Production Logistics: Assist in coordinating travel and shoot logistics, processing travel expenses, and hiring freelance crews, for both domestic and international shoots. The Production Manager will also negotiate and manage blanket deals with stock libraries, and support meeting planning, new staff or contractor set up, postal/courier and reproduction tasks, team phone support, IT/IS request support, oversee deliverables preparation, etc. (25%)
  • Budgeting: The Production Manager will assist Director in tracking the team budget and assist Producers in budgeting for each video project. She/he will be responsible for tracking the costs associated with each project budget to ensure that projects remain within approved budgets. (25%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required.10+ years of production experience. At least five years experience as a Production Manager. Knowledge and Skills Required Production Manager must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to learn quickly and adapt to new
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years of production experience. At least five years experience as a Production Manager.
  • Production Manager must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.
  • Understanding of operations of media production is required.
  • While in-depth technical skills are not be required, the Production Manager must be familiar with all aspects of production so that they can communicate effectively with the production team.
  • Ability to prioritize workflows.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Strong interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to work on a small team, but collaborate with a large organization.
  • The Production Manager must be able to work independently to proactively problem solve.
