Responsible for the production, development, and maintenance of content related to National Geographic Society's digital web properties and/or distribution channels. This position will interface with internal stakeholders of NGS, to coordinate the creative and technical implementation of digital content. This role holds expertise in front-end design capabilities to help create interactive experiences.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Digital Production, (40%)

Working with the digital and program leads for NGS, helps create and implement strategies for developing, packaging, and distributing digital content experiences and products for the greatest mission impact.  Under the direction of NGS's digital leadership and senior web producer, works with external teams including editorial, social media, marketing, development, and technology to accomplish these objectives.

  • Lead producer for projects as assigned.
  • Management of content and page design.
  • Assists in the training of new staff.
  • Competitive analysis and monitors trends for site improvements. 
  • Coordinates with Society UX Director on design implementation.
  • Upholds best practices and provide feedback on workflows.  
  • Stay updated with best practices, new innovative ideas 
  • Promotional coordination with social media and communications.

Digital Reporting and Analytics, 20%

Production of weekly reports, responsible for percentage of analytics requirements split with producers. 

  • Tracks success of digital experiences against established goals and deliverables (KPIs). 
  • Establishes, documents, and monitors project schedules, budgets, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Communicates project status and strategic updates across internal divisions.  
  • Creation and management of weekly analytics report for Society.

Maintenance of Society Website, 20%

Ensures overall quality and consistency of all digital content and user-related communications. Ensures that the NGS brand identity standards and plans are implemented consistently across all digital products.

  • Daily review of Society pages scanning for errors, updates. 
  • Reports and tracks maintenance issues in JIRA environment with development and design team.
  • Support Society digital architecture projects. 

Digital Product Support, 20%

Monitors industry and competitive landscape, maintains time records and performs other duties as assigned. 

  • Working with Digital leadership and production team; support a coherent digital production and publishing plan and timelines. 
  • Facilitating with Society divisions to align product strategy and architecture. 
  • Support maintenance and user experience research for products. 
  • Competitive Analysis, monitor strategy and goals for Society digital tools. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or equivalent; digital or interactive design degree is a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years experience in interactive design or production; ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design, layout, and typography. Strong production skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of GUI design and intuitive navigation schemes and mobile. 
  • Experience using GIT or similar version control system. JavaScript proficiency, HTML, and CSS, JQuery, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Responsive design experience, prototyping experience, HTML 5, IE8 cross browser support, A/B testing, Agile.
