All Things Considered has a six- month opportunity for a producer who wants to experience the energy and adrenaline of a daily news show.
The ideal candidate will be someone who can edit audio and write copy with minimal supervision; someone who is able to conceive and build segments for the daily show; someone able to book guests at the heart of the news and someone with some experience producing in the field. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working across all of NPR’s platforms and is able to write and edit under breaking news deadlines. If you’re willing to work flexible hours, have the ability to generate and execute complex ideas and are curious and have a wide range of interests, this could be the opportunity for you. You will have at least two-three years of experience working in a newsroom and preferably on a daily show.
This opportunity is available immediately and through May 2020.
- Edits tape and writes copy with minimal supervision and direction
- Conceives of and executes signature segments for the show
- Occasionally works in the field: planning, executing and traveling with reporters and hosts while producing key stories
- Thoroughly prepares hosts on goal of interview and intended narrative arc, and assists in focusing/drafting their stories
- Works proactively with Digital staff to ensure All Things Considereddevelops creative content across platforms
- Responsible for editorial integrity and quality of air product, ensuring that all materials on air and online meet NPR standards and practices
- Collaborates with show social media team and NPR Digital team to ensure show content is engaging digital audiences
- Other duties as assigned
- At least four years of experience as a reporter, producer or editor
- Experience writing for radio and with audio production
- Experience producing on digital audio workstations
- Daily news experience with the ability to organize and disseminate information and to coordinate daily news coverage
- Experience writing and editing under breaking news conditions
- Expertise in producing features
- Well-developed curiosity in a wide range of subjects
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
- Demonstrated ability to generate and execute complex, creative ideas
- Strong oral communication skills
- Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system
- Ability and willingness to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations. Severance provisions of the SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreement will apply should you choose not to accept a transfer.
