Leads the enterprise’s business continuity, emergency management, and incident response programs, plans, and procedures.  Institutionalizes preparedness through awareness and education and ensures alignment with industry best practices.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Establishes and maintains the AARP Preparedness Program Policy and other governance documents.
  • Manages performance metrics that track plan development and maintenance cycles, tests and exercises, and business continuity incidents.
  • Creates and maintains the After-Action Report Template and Action Item Database.
  • Provides regular updates to management and prepares preparedness program progress reports.
  • Leads the enterprise-wide Business Continuity Program (BCP).
  • Administers BCP software and oversees vendor relationship.
  • Establishes and communicates the BCP roadmap, goals, and objectives.
  • Creates and communicates Individual Performance Objectives for Continuity Coordinators and group leaders.
  • Forecasts resources needed to implement and mature the BCP.
  • Ensures that BCP components are standardized across the enterprise and applied to all major functions and departments.
  • Conducts and maintains business impact analysis and business continuity risk assessments.
  • Ensures that BCP documentation is developed and maintained in approved BCP system(s) and within timeframes defined.
  • Provides counsel to assist business units develop strategies to recover AARP’s time-sensitive business processes within acceptable timeframes.
  • Ensures that key external vendor/service provider service level agreements (SLA’s) are sufficient.
  • Works with internal IT groups on Disaster Recovery (DR) initiatives as they relate to the BCP.
  • Works with business units to develop and facilitate BCP tests and exercises.
  • Oversees meetings and workshops with Continuity Coordinators and business continuity plan owners to drive program requirements and continuous improvement.
  • Creates and manages emergency action plans at all large operating locations, ensuring that the plans are developed in accordance with all applicable standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Uses innovative ways to communicate emergency roles and responsibilities to staff.
  • Develops and maintains the incident management plans for multiple operating locations.
  • Serves as the incident manager in response to business continuity incidents.
  • Works with a cross-functional team to implement and maintain a workplace violence preparedness program and other initiatives designed to reduce risks to staff and operations.

Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s of Science in Business, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field (Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred)
Skills/Experience: 

A minimum of Ten (10) years of experience in enterprise-wide continuity, resilience, or preparedness programs. Affiliation with and direct participation in business continuity professional associations. 

A CBCP or equivalent certification is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementing a comprehensive BCP program.
  • Experience developing training programs and facilitating tests and exercises.
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects and teams.
  • Strong leadership skills, the ability to think conceptually, and the courage to introduce innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to work with executive-level leadership, senior management, mid-level management, and end-users.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
