NPR is seeking a skilled social media practitioner who is passionate about podcasting to join our Digital Media team in a new role, focused on growing our audience for podcasts. Our Podcast Audience Strategist will dive deep into where our podcast communities are engaging on social media and third-party platforms, sharing analytics and developing effective, tactical strategies. This role will work closely with various colleagues at NPR and Member stations on podcast growth strategies, product marketing, digital and social media best practices and deepening our understanding of user behaviors on new platforms.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Report to the Product Manager of Podcasts at NPR and further the product and audience engagement strategies for our on-demand audio content on various platforms, notably third-party services and social media.
  • Be the expert in how our content is presented in various podcasting and streaming applications and, notably, where our audiences are engaging therein. Create analyses and actionable reports based on this data for NPR colleagues.
  • Grow our audiences on NPR-owned and third-party applications through researched, data-driven decisions.
  • Work alongside various Agile teams in furthering projects.
  • Help launch new podcasts and podcast products, and help develop the communities that evolve with them.
  • Explore emerging platforms and social media communities where NPR can find new and varied audiences; outline limited, tactical experiments and share learnings throughout the Digital Network.
  • Collaborate with News, Programming and Marketing teams on overall social media implementation, best practices, community building and brand awareness.
  • Understand and when appropriate, manage, the tools and platforms needed for implementation of these strategies (social media publishing systems, analytics, etc.).
  • Be a partner with NPR One in its audience engagement and social goals, collaborating with the team on experiments and growth strategies.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusion across all disciplines.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills – extreme comfort with data-driven decision making and performing financial and operational analysis.
  • Implementation proficiency – ability to translate strategic differentiators into innovative and detailed product requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills – demonstrated success for building buy-in for innovative and bold product visions.

Qualifications

  • Mastery of SEO and social media platforms.
  • Experience directly managing a social media account or brand campaign.
  • 2+ years experience directly in podcasting, on-demand audio or news.
  • Experience working with Agile teams.
  • Experience with building and maintaining digital products.
  • Ability to gracefully manage various deadlines and simultaneously work with many, sometimes competing, stakeholders.
  • Savviness with various analytics systems, including Google Analytics, Sprinklr, Chartbeat, CrowdTangle.
  • Digital marketing chops.
  • Passion for podcasting and the industry’s myriad of platforms and mobile apps.

Bonus points

  • Mobile app experience -- in product, software development, BI or analytics.
  • Familiarity with SQL and ability to generate queries, present data and synthesize results.
  • Passion for public media’s digital future.
