The Paralegal will play a key role in advising staff across AARP on a variety of issues and providing training and written guidance and will work with various attorneys in the Office of General Counsel as needs arise.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Review education and advocacy materials, advertising, publications (online and print), production and studio documents, and contest/sweepstakes promotions and perform research 
  • Review, negotiate, and approve basic agreements and leases
  • Prepare and file charitable solicitation registrations and reports for AARP entities, in coordination with outside counsel
  • Assist with general corporate and fundraising compliance issues
  • Perform trademark knock out searches, collect specimen of use, track clearances and filings, and create trademark reports for internal clients 
  • Assist with gathering information and preparing H1-B visa applications and other immigration filings 
  • Help manage regulatory filings related to state laws governing  lobbying, campaign finance,  and contests/sweepstakes, as well as corporate registrations
  • Undertake other duties as they arise or as the employee develops them
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or equivalent combination of experience and education.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent academic record
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a law firm or legal department, legislative office, government agency, non-governmental organization or a combination of education and other relevant experience.  A paralegal certificate is not required.  
  • Must be able to handle multiple, high-level complex projects at one time and high volumes of work on an ongoing basis, with strong attention to detail
  • Must be proficient in oral and written communication, able to explain legal concepts clearly to staff who have minimal legal background.  
  • We are a service department and our fellow employees are our clients – must be customer-oriented, approachable, responsive, and engaging.
  • Must be comfortable training staff and having direct contact with government regulators.
