Mechanic, Building Maintenance

To assist the shift leader and operating engineer with the day to day maintenance and repairs of all mechanical, plumbing, lighting and life safety systems throughout the complex during their assigned shift. This position is considered essential. Essential employees are required to report to and remain at work during emergencies and early closings. Emergencies include, but are not limited to snow, ice, wind, rain, hurricanes, floods, acts of terrorism, fire, earthquakes, etc. This position will also require working overtime on occasions.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems as directed by the shift leader, or supervising engineer. (70%)
  • Respond to unscheduled maintenance requests during the assigned shift such as replacing light bulbs, temperature complaints, plumbing problems, kitchen equipment repairs, etc. (10%)
  • Housekeeping in the mechanical spaces assigned to the shift. (10%)
  • Work on assigned projects as directed, such as installation of new equipment or systems throughout the complex, air balancing, VAV system repairs and troubleshooting, etc. (5%)
  • Administrative duties to include reading and understanding of equipment maintenance manuals and research of maintenance related subjects using the internet. (5%)
Educational Background: 
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Trade school training is preferred. 
  • Applicant will be required to achieve their 6th class license within 24 months of hire, and achieve their 3rd class steam engineers license within 5 years of hire. 
  • Failure to achieve these licenses will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. 
  • This position will also be required to complete 24 hours of continuing education per year in the engineering and maintenance fields.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of working and maintaining the mechanical systems in a Class A office building. 
  • Must also have a willingness to learn, and have a good, positive attitude and work well with others.
