Complexity: The position will require use of strategic and critical thinking skills to recommend the best possible solutions for projects and initiatives. The position will directly report into the Director, Marketing & Communications and will involve the Director in key decisions and review of project deliverables. 

Interaction: The position is coordinative in nature, working closely with the team’s Program Integration Manager and Sr. Marketing & Communications Specialist to synchronize the produced marketing and communication tactics and deliverables. The position will require cross-functional interaction with other ADS staff and key business units such as Brand Center of Excellence and Digital Strategy and Membership. The position will frequently interact with ADS volunteers and hosts advising them on marketing opportunities and developing recommended solutions and tactics to strengthen the programs at the local level.

Impact: This position directly contributes to reaching lives impacted at the nationwide, local level through the ADS suite of program offerings. Position duties and responsibilities contribute to growing impact, relevance and revenue by helping to reach 500,000 program participants annually, in more than 3,500 local communities nationwide, and supporting 4,000 volunteers.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops and implements a robust and relevant organic social media plan, overseeing daily social media content and social media monitoring.
  • Creates communication assets such as talking points and internal memos for the program’s acquisition promotions.
  • Consults with program volunteers, hosts and community organizations to help identify local marketing channels and tactics; Provides recommendations and oversees the implementation of new marketing and communication materials to meet the needs of local grassroots marketing opportunities, in support of driving engagements for AARP Driver Safety programs. 
  • Coordinates with creative services and/or advertising agency to develop programmatic local marketing collateral for volunteer, state office and staff requests.
  • Contributes to delivering a new volunteer recruitment strategy to establish new volunteers for AARP Driver Safety programs.
  • Oversees inventory management and requests for marketing event materials.
  • Contributes to an integrated marketing and communications team that implements a coordinated plan to maximize awareness and growth for AARP Driver Safety across all existing offerings, as well as pilots and future new programs. 
  • Exhibits AARP values in all interactions.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2+ years of experience in professional/business activities, including experience with marketing, communications, social media, promotions, and volunteer management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. 
  • Demonstrates a high level of competence with oral and written communication, computer literacy, strategic thinking, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience with complex, national non-profit programs highly desirable.
